What they need

Robert Half Executive Search has been exclusively retained to appoint a Chief Business Development Officer (CBDO) for a leading healthcare organisation operating across multiple healthcare services in Australia.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Business Officer, this newly created executive leadership position will be responsible for identifying, shaping and enabling strategic growth opportunities across a diverse portfolio of healthcare businesses. Working closely with divisional CEOs, executive leaders and key stakeholders, the CBDO will help drive the organisation's national growth agenda through strategic partnerships, enterprise stakeholder engagement, market development and cross-functional collaboration within a unique federated operating model. Success will depend on the ability to foster alignment across diverse stakeholder groups while identifying opportunities that create long-term value.

Key Attractions

  • Opportunity to establish and define a newly created executive leadership position.
  • Enterprise-wide remit spanning strategic growth, partnerships and market development.
  • Significant influence across a large, complex and highly respected healthcare organisation.
  • Direct engagement with divisional CEOs, executive leaders and key industry stakeholders.
  • High-profile role with the opportunity to shape long-term strategic direction and growth.
  • Collaborative culture that values humility, professionalism and relationship-based leadership.
  • Strong organisational reputation, stability and long-term growth outlook.

The Person

Success in this role will require a commercially astute and emotionally intelligent executive who is capable of building trusted relationships, influencing diverse stakeholder groups and identifying opportunities that create long-term value. The successful candidate will bring a thoughtful and strategic approach to business development, combining strong commercial judgement with the confidence, humility and credibility required to operate effectively within a sophisticated and highly collaborative environment.

Key Requirements

  • Proven success in senior business development, commercial, growth, strategy or partnership leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and leverage executive-level relationships to achieve commercial outcomes.
  • Experience developing strategic partnerships, alliances and growth initiatives within complex organisations.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capability across both internal and external environments.
  • Experience operating within highly regulated, matrixed or federated organisations.
  • A collaborative, low-ego leadership style supported by sound judgement and high emotional intelligence.
  • Healthcare experience will be highly regarded; however, candidates from adjacent sectors with comparable complexity will also be considered.

Location

Sydney is the preferred location for this position; however, outstanding candidates based in Melbourne or Brisbane will also be considered. Given the national remit of the role, regular interstate travel will be required. Travel is expected to be greater during the initial onboarding period as the successful candidate builds key stakeholder relationships across the organisation, before settling into a more moderate ongoing travel rhythm.

A highly competitive executive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate and is designed to attract high-calibre professionals with the experience and capability required to succeed in this strategically important leadership role. The package will comprise a substantial fixed remuneration component together with a performance-based incentive structure.

Your application will be assessed within 3-5 working days. Please note only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
