Chief Construction Inspector

ZOFS Engineering and Land Surveying, P.C. is seeking experienced Senior Inspectors and Chief Inspectors to join our Connecticut construction inspection team.

We provide civil engineering, land surveying, construction management, and construction inspection services across Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. We’re looking for dependable professionals who take pride in their work, communicate well, and enjoy working with a supportive team.

About the Role

Support highway, bridge, and other infrastructure construction projects throughout Connecticut. Senior Inspectors will independently inspect assigned construction activities and maintain accurate project records. Chief Inspectors will also lead field inspection staff and coordinate closely with the Resident Engineer, contractor, and client.

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction activities for compliance with contract plans, specifications, and applicable requirements.
• Prepare and review daily inspection reports documenting work performed, personnel, equipment, quantities, and field conditions.
• Maintain accurate quantity measurements, payment documentation, and time-and-material records.
• Read and interpret construction plans and specifications, identify field issues, and communicate concerns promptly.
• Monitor required materials testing and supporting documentation.
• Coordinate with contractors, project staff, and client representatives to support safe, quality construction.
• For Chief Inspector positions, supervise inspection staff, coordinate assignments, review reports, and help resolve construction issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the applicable CTDOT qualification paths below.

Senior Inspector:

• BS degree with at least 4 years of general experience, including 4 years of field inspection experience; or
• CMIT Level 4, NICET Level III, or an applicable trade license with at least 6 years of general experience, including 4 years of field inspection experience.

Chief Inspector:

• PE license or CCM certification with at least 10 years of general experience, including 6 years of field inspection experience and 4 years of supervisory experience; or
• CACM certification, NICET Level IV, or an applicable trade license with at least 12 years of general experience, including 8 years of field inspection experience and 4 years of supervisory experience.

Trade-license eligibility is subject to applicable CTDOT requirements and the assigned work.

Additional Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and inspection procedures.
• Ability to maintain organized field and office records and perform quantity calculations.
• Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Previous CTDOT construction inspection experience preferred.
• Ability to reliably commute to assigned project sites in Connecticut.
