Chief Data Engineer

For our client, we are seeking a Chief Data Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Technical Services space.

The Chief Data Engineer will lead the design, modernization, and operation of enterprise data platforms that support mission-critical analytics and data integration efforts. This role is responsible for guiding cloud-based data engineering strategy, improving pipeline reliability, and partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure secure, governed, and scalable data delivery. The position will also help coordinate phased onboarding of new data sources and provide technical leadership across architecture and cloud analytics engineering initiatives.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $114,600 – $252,100 annually

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of enterprise data ingestion and transformation pipelines
• Oversee migration from legacy ETL platforms to cloud-based solutions on Azure
• Architect scalable data integration patterns supporting multiple ingestion methods
• Manage the ongoing operation and monitoring of production data pipelines
• Design integration with a government data fabric and maintain data governance across systems
• Coordinate phased data onboarding based on government priorities
• Provide technical leadership for data architecture and cloud analytics engineering

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 15 years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or a related field; equivalent experience considered
• Proven leadership in architecting and delivering enterprise-scale data integration solutions
• Deep expertise in Azure data engineering services such as Azure Data Factory and Databricks
• Extensive experience with Python, SQL, PySpark, and modern data integration frameworks
• Strong background in data architecture, data quality, and operationalizing production data pipelines
