The Opportunity

Basin Lighthouse seeks an experienced, mission-driven Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to guide a West Texas nonprofit focused on substance use prevention, behavioral health promotion, and strengthening individuals and families. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO leads organizational strategy, operations, personnel, governmental contract stewardship, regulatory compliance, community partnerships, and long-term sustainability.

This role calls for a collaborative, ethical executive who can pair strategic vision with practical leadership in an organization funded primarily through governmental contracts.

What You’ll Lead

· Organizational leadership: Set priorities, supervise and develop leadership staff, strengthen systems, and foster a respectful, accountable workplace culture.

· Governmental grants and compliance: Provide executive oversight of HHSC and other contracts; maintain agency relationships; assess regulatory requirements, monitoring findings, and organizational risks.

· Financial stewardship: Guide budgeting, sustainability, and internal-control expectations in partnership with qualified financial personnel; review material financial issues at an executive level.

· People and culture: Approve hiring and termination decisions, develop leaders, encourage professional growth, and support effective staffing and employee well-being.

· Strategy and partnerships: Lead strategic planning, build relationships with foundations and community leaders, and identify opportunities to expand impact and diversify support.

· Board partnership: Provide transparent organizational updates and strategic recommendations while directing day-to-day management under Board-approved policies.

Qualifications

· Minimum five years of progressively responsible management or organizational leadership experience; three years in a senior leadership or executive capacity preferred.

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education, training, and substantial executive experience may be considered. Master’s degree desirable, not required.

· Experience with governmental grants, contracts, or regulated funding sources; knowledge of compliance, nonprofit governance, financial stewardship, and organizational risk.

· Strong communication, strategic planning, personnel leadership, relationship-building, judgment, and change-management skills.

· Behavioral health, substance use prevention, or community-based services experience preferred.

Position Details

· Full-time, salaried position; exempt classification subject to applicable law.

· Based in the Midland–Odessa region, with flexible work arrangements consistent with organizational responsibilities and expectations established by the Board.

· Regional travel and occasional statewide or overnight travel; some evening and weekend commitments.

Pay: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
