Requirements

• B.Bibl / B.LIS / B. Tech: LIS / B. Inf (Hons) or PGDip

LIS or equivalent 4-year post matric qualification

• 5-8 years relevant experience within a public library

environment with Supervisory experience

• MS Office proficiency
• Registered member of LIASA
• The incumbent will be required to work in the evening on

weekdays on a Saturday when required.

Key Performance Areas

• Manages all aspects related to ensuring an excellent service

by a City-wide public library, by providing strategic direction

and support

• Manages the staff within the library including specialised

functions

• Manages the operational requirements of the library
• Provides and controls a comprehensive and efficient public

library service to users throughout by ensuring that the

informational, educational and recreational requirements of

library users are met through the availability of a

comprehensive range of library material and professional

services

• Initiates, develops and manages relationships and partnerships

(internally and externally) to implement business improvement

initiatives and partnerships, and to support the promotion of

reading

• Ensures financial control of the library book budget, daily

cash management processes and suitable asset management

• Ensures the implementation and maintenance of procedures

and systems associated with the efficient and effective running

of the library
