Chief Mechanic

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and organized Chief Mechanic to lead our fleet maintenance operations. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the mechanical reliability, safety, and routine servicing of a diverse fleet comprising 23 trucks, 15 SUVs/sedans, and 22 motorcycles.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of technicians
• Manage parts inventory
• Ensure comprehensive reporting on vehicle health, maintenance costs, and operational downtime
• Oversee the mechanical reliability and safety of the fleet
• Oversee routine servicing of the fleet
• Fleet Maintenance Management: Direct and perform preventive maintenance, diagnostic testing, and major repairs across all vehicle categories (heavy trucks, light passenger vehicles, and motorcycles).
• Inventory Control: Manage spare parts, tools, and consumables inventories, ensuring optimal stock levels while minimizing waste and reducing equipment downtime.
• Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate digital or physical logs of all repairs, service schedules, parts usage, and maintenance expenditures to present regular reports to management.
• Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and schedule workshop staff, ensuring high standards of workmanship and adherence to workshop safety protocols.
• Vendor & Compliance Management: Coordinate with external suppliers for specialized repairs and ensure all fleet vehicles comply with local roadworthiness, registration, and safety regulations.
