The CTO will be responsible for the technical vision, architecture, engineering strategy, and execution across artificial intelligence, sensor fusion, autonomous systems, mission software, and advanced sensing technologies. This executive will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Mission, Operations, and senior leadership to translate complex defense and security requirements into scalable, resilient, and mission-ready technology.

The CTO will play a central role in advancing Rebellion Defense’s technology platform while building an engineering organization capable of delivering trusted systems in demanding operational environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the company’s long-term technology strategy across artificial intelligence, sensor systems, autonomy, mission software, and defense technology.
  • Establish the technical architecture and engineering roadmap supporting Rebellion Defense’s next generation of products and platforms.
  • Lead engineering, architecture, AI/ML, infrastructure, and advanced technology initiatives across the organization.
  • Drive development of intelligent systems that integrate sensor data, AI-driven analytics, threat detection, decision support, and operational workflows.
  • Advance multi-sensor data fusion capabilities that transform complex real-time data into actionable intelligence.
  • Guide the development of resilient, secure, and scalable software architectures capable of operating in mission-critical and contested environments.
  • Partner with Product and Mission teams to translate operational requirements from defense, government, and critical infrastructure customers into technical capabilities.
  • Establish engineering standards across software development, systems architecture, cybersecurity, reliability, testing, deployment, and technical documentation.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies across AI, machine learning, autonomous systems, radar, sensing, edge computing, and distributed systems.
  • Drive technical innovation while balancing research, productization, operational reliability, security, and speed of deployment.
  • Partner with government customers, technology partners, and defense stakeholders on technical strategy, system integration, and future capability development.
  • Ensure technology platforms meet rigorous security, reliability, compliance, and mission-assurance requirements.
  • Develop technical strategies for integrating Rebellion Defense technologies with existing defense platforms, sensors, command-and-control systems, and operational environments.
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a world-class engineering and technology organization capable of solving complex national security challenges.
  • Serve as a senior technical representative of the company with customers, partners, government leaders, and the broader defense technology ecosystem.
  • Provide the executive leadership team and Board with strategic perspectives on technology trends, competitive differentiation, technical investment, and emerging opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive technology and engineering experience, including significant executive or senior engineering leadership responsibility.
  • Proven experience leading technology organizations within defense technology, artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, aerospace, cybersecurity, robotics, sensing, or other mission-critical technology environments.
  • Deep technical expertise in one or more areas including artificial intelligence, machine learning, distributed systems, sensor fusion, autonomous systems, radar, edge computing, or large-scale software platforms.
  • Strong track record of defining technical strategy and translating advanced technology into production-ready products and operational capabilities.
  • Experience architecting secure, resilient, highly available systems designed for complex or mission-critical environments.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary engineering organizations spanning software, AI/ML, systems engineering, infrastructure, and emerging technologies.
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, cloud and edge architectures, data platforms, cybersecurity, and production AI systems.
  • Experience integrating software with sensors, hardware platforms, or complex external systems is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, federal government, or national security technology environments is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with government customers and navigating security, compliance, accreditation, and mission-assurance requirements is preferred.
  • Proven ability to recruit and develop exceptional technical leaders and engineering teams.
  • Exceptional strategic judgment, technical communication, and executive leadership skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred
