What they need

Make a difference. Be part of something from the beginning.

Do you love working with children and young people?

Are you passionate, caring and nurturing, and want a role where you can make a real difference to a child's life?

Would you like the opportunity to join a brand-new children's residential service and help shape its culture, values and foundations from the very beginning?

If so, Plant View House could be the opportunity you've been looking for.

Plant View House is a brand-new therapeutic children's residential home in Bradford, supporting children and young people aged 5–17 who may experience emotional and behavioural difficulties.

We are looking for passionate, nurturing and committed Residential Support Workers to join our founding team as we prepare to welcome our first children.

You don't need to have all the answers. What matters most to us is that you are compassionate, patient, reliable and genuinely want to make a difference.

What makes this role different?

Joining a brand-new service means you won't simply be stepping into an established way of working, you will help create it.

As part of our founding team, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Help build the culture, values and standards of Plant View House.
  • Be part of creating a warm, safe and nurturing home environment.
  • Build meaningful and trusting relationships with children and young people.
  • Help children feel safe, listened to, respected and valued.
  • Contribute your ideas and experiences as the service develops.
  • Support the development of consistent, child-centred and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Work alongside an experienced and supportive team.
  • Develop your own skills and knowledge through training and hands-on experience.
  • Be part of a service where your contribution from day one really matters.

About the Role

As a Residential Support Worker, you will play an important role in the everyday lives of the children and young people living at Plant View House.

You will provide consistent, nurturing and child-centred support, helping children to feel safe and supported while encouraging their development, independence and confidence.

This is a hands-on role where you will spend your shifts directly supporting and engaging with the children.

Every day will be different. You may be supporting a child with their morning routine, helping with homework, preparing meals together, taking part in activities, attending appointments or simply being there to listen when they need someone.

The most important part of your role will be building positive relationships and helping children to feel that they matter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing high-quality, nurturing and child-centred care.
  • Working directly with children and young people on shift.
  • Building positive, trusting and professional relationships with children.
  • Supporting children with their emotional, social and practical needs.
  • Supporting children who may experience emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • Promoting positive behaviour through consistent, patient and supportive approaches.
  • Supporting children to develop independence, confidence, resilience and life skills.
  • Encouraging children to participate in education, hobbies, activities and community experiences.
  • Supporting children with routines, personal care, meals and day-to-day tasks where required.
  • Supporting the implementation of individual care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies.
  • Listening to children's wishes and feelings and ensuring their voices are heard.
  • Promoting and maintaining strong safeguarding practices.
  • Recognising and reporting safeguarding concerns appropriately.
  • Maintaining accurate records, including daily logs and incident reports.
  • Supporting positive relationships with families and external professionals.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming home environment.
  • Following all relevant policies, procedures, legislation and regulations.
  • Participating in staff meetings, supervision, training and professional development.
  • Working positively as part of the wider team and supporting colleagues.
  • Contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of Plant View House.

The person we're looking for

We are looking for people who genuinely care about children and want to make a difference.

You could already have experience in children's residential care, or you may be someone who has always wanted to work with children and is looking for the opportunity to start a rewarding career in care.

We are looking for people who are:

  • Passionate about supporting children and young people.
  • Nurturing, caring and compassionate.
  • Patient, understanding and emotionally resilient.
  • Reliable and committed.
  • Able to build positive and trusting relationships.
  • Comfortable working with children who may display challenging or distressed behaviours.
  • Calm and professional in difficult situations.
  • A good communicator and team player.
  • Willing to learn and develop.
  • Open to feedback and committed to improving their practice.
  • Able to maintain professional boundaries while building meaningful relationships.
  • Someone who wants to help build something special from the beginning.

Qualifications & Experience

Previous experience working with children and young people is desirable, but we are also interested in hearing from people who have the right attitude, values and passion to make a difference.

A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent is desirable, and successful candidates will be supported with appropriate training and development in line with the requirements of the role.

What matters most to us is who you are, how you treat children and your commitment to providing them with the best possible care.

Safeguarding & Safer Recruitment

The safety and wellbeing of children is at the heart of everything we do.

Plant View House is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

All successful applicants will be required to complete safer recruitment and pre-employment checks, including an Enhanced DBS check, employment references and verification of qualifications and employment history.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate their suitability to work with children and young people and share our commitment to safeguarding.

Help us build something special!

This is your opportunity to join Plant View House at the very beginning of its journey.

We are looking for people who want more than just a job. We want people who want to build relationships, create positive experiences, support children through difficult moments and celebrate their achievements.

If you are someone who is kind, caring, passionate and wants to make a difference, we would love to hear from you.

You could be joining us at the start of something truly special, helping to create a home where children feel safe, supported and able to grow.
