Roles & Responsibilities for Chiller Specialist

1. Installation & Commissioning

• Install, start-up, and commission air-cooled and water-cooled chiller systems.
• Verify all electrical, mechanical, and plumbing connections.
• Ensure compliance with OEM standards and safety guidelines.

2. Maintenance & Repair

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and related HVAC equipment.
• Diagnose issues such as refrigerant leaks, compressor faults, sensor failures, electrical faults, and control system malfunctions.
• Repair or replace defective components including compressors, evaporators, condensers, valves, motors, and control boards.

3. Troubleshooting

• Conduct root cause analysis for chiller breakdowns and performance issues.
• Use diagnostic tools such as gauges, multimeters, BMS/PLC interfaces, and refrigerant analyzers.

4. Monitoring & Optimization

• Monitor system performance parameters such as pressure, temperature, flow rate, and energy consumption.
• Optimize chiller operation for energy efficiency and load management.
• Maintain logbooks, performance reports, and maintenance records.

5. Safety & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to HVAC and refrigeration safety protocols.
• Handle refrigerants (R134a, R410A, R407C, R123, etc.) according to environmental standards.
• Comply with local regulations and ASHRAE guidelines.

6. Coordination & Documentation

• Coordinate with vendors, OEM service teams, and facility management.
• Prepare service reports, inspection checklists, and spare parts requirements.
• Train junior technicians on chiller operations and maintenance practices.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration cycles, and thermodynamics.
• Expertise in water-cooled and air-cooled chillers (centrifugal, screw, scroll, reciprocating).
• Familiarity with BMS/PLC controls, VFDs, pumps, and cooling towers.
• Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings.

Soft Skills

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication for reporting and coordination.
• Ability to work in shifts and attend emergency breakdowns.
