Chinese translator cum Assistant

About the role

The Chinese Translator is responsible for providing accurate and timely translation and interpretation between Chinese and English/Malay, supporting communication between Chinese-speaking management, local employees, subcontractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders. The position requires a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively in a construction/project environment.

Key responsibilities

• Translate instructions and specifications between Chinese and English/Malay
• Provide consecutive interpretation during meetings, site discussions, briefings, and daily work activities
• Assist Chinese-speaking management in communicating with local employees, authorities, consultants, subcontractors, and other parties
• Ensure translations accurately reflect the original meaning, technical terminology, tone, and intent
• Clarify unclear or ambiguous information before completing translations
• Provide interpretation support at construction sites when required
• Translate construction-related terminology, method statements, drawings, specifications, safety instructions, and project correspondence
• Assist with translation of employment-related documents, company policies, notices, and internal communications
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding company information, employee information, project information, and management instructions
• Perform duties professionally and impartially without intentionally altering or misrepresenting the meaning of information

About you

• Fluent in Chinese
• Good command of English and/or Bahasa Malaysia
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Previous experience as a translator/interpreter, particularly in a construction, engineering, manufacturing, or project environment, is an advantage
• Familiarity with construction and engineering terminology is preferred
• Able to work independently and under pressure
• Excellent communication skills

• Good listening and comprehension skills
