Live, work and play in Aotearoa New Zealand’s most spectacular setting.

No two days at Queenstown Lakes District Council are the same. Every day we provide services, facilities and programmes essential to the health and wellbeing of our people and environment, while stepping up to the challenges and opportunities that come with being New Zealand’s fastest growing territorial authority.

We’re proud to be QLDC. Our people are motivated by a shared purpose driven by care, connection and community. All our roles are at the heart of a dynamic and diverse set of communities where you will be making a genuine difference every day. Our Libraries team are made up of dedicated, passionate individuals who enjoy working with and for our community. Join us!

We’re looking for a Circulation Assistant to join our team on a casual basis. This is not a permanent position and has no fixed contracted hours. It provides flexible cover for team absences and operational needs and would suit someone looking for flexible work.

You’ll need to work across the Queenstown, Frankton and Arrowtown library branches as required, including short notice shifts, school holidays, Saturdays and late-night Thursdays.

What you’ll be doing

This is a customer-facing role where you’ll be the first point of contact for library users, helping with day-to-day enquiries and supporting them to access library services, programmes and resources. You’ll work with the wider team to create a welcoming and positive environment for everyone.

The role will involve:

  • Actively promoting library memberships to customers and encourage registrations and use of library programmes
  • Assisting with bookings and registrations for library programmes and events
  • Checking in and checking out, processing cash and eftpos transactions
  • Navigating the Library Management System and keeping accurate records
  • Support and promote the use of Te Reo and development of matauranga Maori across physical and digital platforms.

What you’ll bring to the role

You’ll have experience in a customer service or administration role, within a library or wider educational setting is a bonus. Your strong communication skills and ability to relate well to a variety of people will set you up for success. You’ll be passionate about working with the community and the role libraries play within it.

To best succeed in this role, you’ll have:

  • High attention to detail and strong organisation skills
  • Experience working with people from a range of cultures
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • Flexible availability and willingness to work on an as-needed basis
