City Engineer

Job Summary

Make a lasting impact on the future of a growing community. The City of Defiance is seeking an experienced and collaborative engineering professional to serve as City Engineer and lead the City's Engineering Division.

Reporting to the City Administrator, the City Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, bidding, construction administration, and inspection of municipal infrastructure projects. This position oversees the City's engineering functions related to streets, sidewalks, stormwater systems, water distribution, sanitary sewer systems, drainage improvements, subdivision and development review, and capital improvement planning.

The City Engineer supervises Engineering Division staff, manages consultant and contractor relationships, administers the division budget, assists with long-range infrastructure planning, and works closely with City divisions, elected officials, government agencies, developers, and residents to ensure the successful delivery of public improvement projects.

Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, engineering, or engineering technology; registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of Ohio; and at least five years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience involving municipal infrastructure or public works projects, including at least two years in a supervisory role. A valid driver’s license is also required. The current salary range is $100,000 - $120,000 plus full benefits (health, vision, dental, life insurance, paid leave, sick leave, pension).
