What they need

About Technica

We’re growing. Technica is a specialist engineering company delivering complex, multi-disciplinary projects for clients across the UK and international energy and critical infrastructure sectors – spanning EC&I (Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation), software and controls, mechanical, process and civil engineering, with full accountability from design through to build.

An ambitious five-year strategy is taking us into new markets, new capability and new scale – which means genuine opportunity for the people joining us now: to grow a career, take on real responsibility, and help shape where the business goes next, alongside a team with over 20 years in the industry.

Why this role matters

We’re hiring a Senior Civil & Structural Designer to deliver accurate, practical design and drafting solutions for civil infrastructure and structural systems. Reporting to the Head of Civil and Structural Department, you’ll support projects from concept and front-end engineering design (FEED) through detailed design, construction and as-built stages.

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Produces precise drawings and models with a practical understanding of construction
  • Translates engineering concepts into clear, workable design outputs
  • Coordinates confidently across disciplines and resolves design interfaces
  • Shares knowledge and helps junior designers develop

Your work will cover heavy industrial plant, oil and gas assets and building structures, including skids, modules, lifting systems and supporting infrastructure. You’ll work closely with engineers to ensure drawings and models reflect design intent, constructability and installation requirements.

How you’ll lead

You’ll develop civil and structural design deliverables and coordinate them with engineering, fabrication and construction teams. You’ll:

  • Develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for industrial plant, oil and gas assets and building structures
  • Produce civil layouts for foundations, site grading, basic drainage, access roads and earthworks
  • Prepare steelwork general arrangements and fabrication packages, reinforced concrete layouts and rebar details
  • Incorporate structural analysis outputs and geotechnical information into practical drawings
  • Prepare and check models, clash detection reports, material take-offs and design packages; maintain drawing registers and document control
  • Coordinate with process, piping, mechanical and EC&I teams, vendors and fabricators, and participate in design and model reviews
  • Support construction queries and as-built documentation, considering temporary works and installation constraints
  • Apply safety-in-design and relevant UK and oil and gas standards; check outputs, mentor junior colleagues and improve design practices

What you’ll bring

Qualifications and experience

  • HNC, HND or degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline
  • At least ten years’ civil and structural design experience in oil and gas, heavy industry and/or building structures
  • Experience across FEED and detailed design phases
  • Understanding of steel and concrete structures, foundations, drainage and roads

Design tools and capability

  • Proficiency in industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Advance Steel, AVEVA E3D, Tekla Structures or Revit
  • Strong drawing accuracy, coordination and communication skills
  • A practical approach to solving problems on complex, multidisciplinary projects

What you’ll get

  • Competitive
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Company Performance Bonus Scheme
  • Private healthcare (plus family options)
  • Company pension
  • Death in Service & Critical Illness cover
  • Remote / hybrid working arrangements to be confirmed
  • Recognition scheme & genuine commitment to your development

Our Why

Technica exists because the work we do matters. Millions of people depend on the infrastructure our team helps design, build, and maintain – from the energy that powers homes and businesses to the critical systems that keep industries running safely.

We’re driven by the impact of getting it right: safe operations, systems that perform, and clients who can focus on what comes next rather than worrying about what might go wrong.

Interested in joining us?

If you’re an experienced civil and structural designer who values practical solutions, technical quality and collaborative delivery, we’d welcome a conversation. Send your CV to get started.
