What they need
Civil Construction Superintendent
JLB Contractors, LLC — Long Beach, Mississippi
Full-Time
Build the Coast. Build the Future.
JLB Contractors is seeking an experienced Civil Construction Superintendent to lead field operations for civil, underground utility, sitework, and earthwork projects throughout the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas.
Founded in 1994, JLB is a locally owned and family-operated construction company specializing in civil construction, site preparation, hauling, and general contracting. Our work includes earthwork, underground utilities, storm drainage, erosion control, demolition, road construction, and complete site development.
Our standard is simple: On schedule. On budget. On target.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on field leader who takes ownership of the entire project—not just the day-to-day activities. This position is responsible for safety, quality, production, schedule, budget performance, documentation, subcontractor coordination, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise all daily field operations
- Lead foremen, operators, laborers, and subcontractors
- Manage civil construction activities, including:
- Water, sewer, and storm drainage installation
- Site preparation and development
- Clearing, excavation, grading, and earthwork
- Road and subbase construction
- Erosion control and demolition
- Develop short-term work plans that support the overall project schedule
- Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, inspections, and deliveries
- Monitor daily quantities, production, job costs, and budget performance
- Identify production issues or potential cost overruns and take corrective action early
- Review and understand plans, specifications, schedules, contracts, and project requirements
- Recognize changed conditions, scope conflicts, delays, and potential change-order work
- Promptly document and communicate out-of-scope work before proceeding
- Maintain accurate daily reports covering manpower, equipment, quantities, delays, conflicts, visitors, and jobsite conditions
- Coordinate with project managers, owners, engineers, inspectors, utility representatives, and other contractors
- Manage subcontractor scheduling, production, quality, safety, and contract compliance
- Use GPS layout and machine-control systems to support accurate and efficient field operations
- Maintain quality control and ensure work conforms to project plans and specifications
- Lead daily safety planning, including pre-task planning, job hazard analysis, and crew communication
- Identify and mitigate safety, operational, contractual, quality, and schedule-related risks
- Maintain an organized, professional, and productive jobsite
Minimum Qualifications
- At least five years of experience as a Civil Construction Superintendent
- Demonstrated experience managing civil, underground utility, sitework, and earthwork projects
- Strong knowledge of water, sewer, storm drainage, grading, excavation, and road construction
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, grades, elevations, and details
- Experience with GPS layout and machine-control technology
- Proven ability to manage schedules, budgets, manpower, equipment, production, and job costs
- Experience coordinating and holding subcontractors accountable
- Ability to recognize changed conditions and potential change-order work
- Strong understanding of construction safety and risk mitigation
- Ability to maintain clear, accurate, and timely project documentation
- Strong leadership, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Federal or government construction experience
- Experience working under USACE, NASA, or similar federal safety and documentation requirements
- Familiarity with Procore or similar construction-management software
- Experience with Trimble or comparable GPS and machine-control systems
- OSHA 30 certification
- Competent Person training applicable to civil and excavation work
