Job Overview

Engineering By Houghton is looking for a self-directed, solution-oriented Civil Engineer!

At Engineering by Houghton (“EBH”), we exist to engineer a better future for our clients and our planet. We are doing things differently, disrupting the way that engineering services are provided by focusing on constructability-first design, cutting-edge technology, and building a team of brilliant professionals who are experts in design and execution of infrastructure projects and aligned with our values of continuous learning, community, and environmental stewardship.

We are big on trust, quality, relationships, and responsive communication with clients. We are output driven and offer an environment that encourages collaboration, professional development, and innovation.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Civil Engineer is a critical position at EBH, managing a portfolio of various sized projects from start to finish and working to grow the scope and scale of the business.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a recent P. Eng or Civil Technology graduate with 4+ years of practical experience to fast-track and boost their career. We would also welcome applications from senior engineers who are looking for a change and want to join an innovative and growing company.

Duties

  • Work closely with the CEO and other Engineers to plan work, allocate resources, and develop and advance growth plans for the company.
  • Project manage a portfolio of various-sized projects, ensuring that all aspects of the project are actively and efficiently managed to meet deadlines, budgets, and client expectations.
  • Manage project budgets and schedules using industry-leading software (Currently BQE Core for budget management and Oracle Primavera Cloud for scheduling). You will be responsible for reviewing and approving project time and expense entries from all team members and ensuring accurate tracking of project performance.
  • Act as EBH’s primary point of contact for field staff, surveyors, drafters, designers, subcontractors, contractors, and clients for the projects you are leading, maintaining open communication and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Complete engineering design for residential and commercial land development, municipal infrastructure, and environmental services projects using Autodesk Civil 3D, Storm, and Sanitary Sewer, and other industry-standard applications.
  • Spend time in the field and on worksites to understand the existing topography, identify and record municipal infrastructure, underground utilities, and other key features. Oversee construction activities and meet with clients and contractors to ensure designs are implemented successfully.
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers and designers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
  • Ensure quality control and compliance with municipal, provincial and national engineering design standards on all projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering / civil engineering technology diploma
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience in civil engineering or construction - we are open to applications from senior candidates with more experience
  • Knowledge of provincial and national engineering design requirements
  • Strong project management skills and experience – able to plan holistically and see interconnections, impact and mitigation
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Strong technical skills and experience and willingness to apply these skills broadly
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, be self-motivated, organized and prepared
  • Valid Driver's License and Vehicle
  • Proficiency using the Autodesk Civil 3D
  • Proficiency using Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis (or comparable stormwater management software)
  • Experience using topographic survey equipment will be considered an asset
