Civil Engineer cum Quantity Surveyor

About the role

RUANG IHSAN CONSTRUCTION is seeking a skilled Civil Engineer cum Quantity Surveyor to join our engineering team on a full-time basis in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. This is a pivotal position that combines technical engineering expertise with quantity surveying responsibilities, playing a crucial role in the successful delivery of our construction projects. You will be instrumental in bridging the gap between design and execution, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse construction projects whilst developing expertise across both civil engineering and cost management disciplines.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct site inspections and surveys to assess project conditions and gather data for feasibility studies and design development
• Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets and financial forecasts for construction projects from inception through completion
• Monitor and manage project costs, tracking expenses against budget allocations and identifying areas for cost optimisation
• Review and analyse construction drawings, specifications and technical documentation to ensure compliance with design standards and buildability
• Prepare bills of quantities and tender documentation for procurement processes
• Liaise with architects, contractors, suppliers and clients to coordinate project requirements and resolve technical issues
• Conduct site supervision and quality inspections to ensure construction works meet contractual specifications and standards
• Prepare variation orders, claims assessments and contract administration documentation
• Analyse project schedules and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and timeline compliance
• Maintain comprehensive project records, documentation and reports for audit and compliance purposes

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or equivalent professional qualification
• Professional registration or certification as a Civil Engineer with relevant bodies (such as BEM or equivalent)
• Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in civil or structural engineering combined with quantity surveying responsibilities
• Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, materials, building codes and regulatory requirements applicable in Malaysia
• Proficiency in cost estimation software, project management tools and CAD applications
• Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate bills of quantities and tender documentation
• Excellent understanding of contract administration and project costing principles
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities with the capacity to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams
• Knowledge of health, safety and environmental management on construction sites
• Preferred experience with projects in Sabah or East Malaysia
