What they need

About Us:

Lodestar Energy is a leading developer and independent power producer in the renewable energy sector, committed to delivering sustainable and innovative solutions. As part of our growth strategy, we are seeking a licensed Civil Engineer to bring site civil design into our team for our distributed generation solar and storage projects.

Salary Range: $100,000 to $130,000, commensurate with experience

Position Overview:

As Civil Engineering Manager, you will work closely with the Director of Engineering, Procurement and Construction and our development team to take projects from site selection through construction. In your first six months you will advise on projects our civil subconsultants are designing, build Lodestar’s civil drawing standards and templates with internal CAD support, and lead our first internal pilot project. From there you will grow into engineer of record for site plans, grading, stormwater and permit sets as we expand across Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and New Hampshire. The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer with at least 5 years of site civil or land development experience and strong proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and stormwater design. This position is a hybrid position based in either our W. Hartford, Connecticut or New York, New York office, with our new York office being preferred. Regular travel to project sites, including Maryland, may be necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Setup:

  • Build Lodestar’s civil drawing standards, templates and typical details with internal CAD support.
  • Lead Lodestar’s first internal pilot project from concept layout through permit submission.

Site Civil Design:

  • Develop concept layouts and site plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D, PVCase and public LiDAR to screen and size new sites.
  • Prepare grading, stormwater management and erosion and sediment control designs, reports and permit sets.
  • Serve as engineer of record on civil construction sets, decommissioning plans and stormwater permits (CT DEEP, MDE, NH Alteration of Terrain, NPDES) as licensure allows.
  • Direct internal and outside CAD drafters on civil and GIS drawing production.

Permitting Support:

  • Prepare the civil portions of local site plan applications, Connecticut Siting Council petitions and Maryland CPCN filings.
  • Answer engineering questions from towns, state reviewers and the Maryland Power Plant Research Program, and represent projects at public hearings and abutter meetings.
  • Coordinate with survey, geotechnical and environmental subconsultants on the inputs that feed the civil design.

Subconsultant Coordination:

  • Advise the development team on civil subconsultant scopes, proposals and deliverables, and review their designs for quality, schedule and budget.
  • Manage on call civil firms for peak workloads and states where you are not yet licensed.

EPC and Construction Support:

  • Define civil scope, quantities and cost estimates for EPC bid packages, and review EPC civil submittals for accuracy and value engineering.
  • Perform or oversee construction stormwater compliance inspections and as built reviews.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer license in Massachusetts and/or Maryland (heavily preferred), or the ability to obtain one by comity within six months, and willingness to add other states in our pipeline (NY, NJ, NH CT). An NCEES Record is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of site civil or land development design experience. Experience with solar PV, BESS or utility sites is strongly preferred; compensation commensurate with experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and stormwater modeling software such as HydroCAD. Experience with PVCase, GIS, and setting up CAD standards and templates is a preferred.
  • Working knowledge of stormwater and erosion control standards in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Maryland. CPESC certification is a plus.
  • Experience managing subconsultants, scopes and budgets.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.
