Job Description

As the Civil Engineering Technician, you will provides handson technical support to civil engineers on our residential, commercial and industrial building sites. The role focuses on drawing preparation, site laboratory testing, onsite construction monitoring and material & labour cost takeoff.

Main Responsibilities

Technical Drafting & Documentation

1. Prepare sketches, charts, tabulations, plans and technical drawings for civil engineering works including drainage, water supply, sewerage reticulation systems, roads, foundations and other structures.

2. Assist in preparing design documentation and project reports to support Civil Engineering Professionals and Engineering Technologists.

Fieldwork & Testing

3. Perform and direct fieldwork activities, including site measurements and data collection.

4. Conduct field and laboratory testing of construction materials and soils.

5. Collect and compile data for traffic surveys and infrastructure assessments.

Data Analysis & Computation

6. Collect and analyse engineering data, carrying out relevant calculations to support project planning and construction activities.

7. Interpret work assignment instructions and apply appropriate engineering procedures and methods.

8. Select suitable tools and equipment for site and laboratory work.

Cost Estimation & Compliance

9. Assist in estimating material quantities and project costs.

10. Ensure works are carried out in compliance with engineering specifications, relevant regulations, and contractual provisions.

Inspection & Supervision

11. Inspect civil engineering works during and after construction to ensure quality standards are met.

12. Organise and supervise maintenance and repair work when required.

13. Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure efficient project execution.

Requirements

1. A bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management or a related construction field is required.

2. Alternatively, a minimum of two years of relevant civil engineering technical work experience may be accepted in lieu of formal academic qualifications.

3. Proven practical experience assisting with civil engineering technical works on residential, commercial or industrial construction projects, including drawing preparation, site testing, site inspection and basic quantity estimation.

4. Fundamental knowledge of civil construction processes, engineering specifications, basic building codes, and workplace safety standards applicable to building and civil projects.

5. Solid technical skills in preparing engineering sketches, technical tabulations, conducting site laboratory testing and analysing construction technical data.

6. Effective teamwork, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to support professional engineers and coordinate with on-site construction teams.

7. Strong attention to detail, time management and problemsolving ability to complete technical tasks accurately and follow project schedules.

Remuneration

1. Pay range from: $49-$51per hour

2. Minimum working hours:40 (full-time position)
