What they need
About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a well-established civil construction organization seeking an experienced Civil Estimator to join its growing Texas operation.
This is an opportunity for an estimator who wants more than simply turning around bids. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of estimates, work closely with operations and preconstruction leadership, and help develop estimating processes as the organization continues to expand its presence in the Texas heavy civil market.
The project portfolio includes site development, earthwork, underground utilities, roadway, water/wastewater, and other heavy civil infrastructure across the Greater Houston region and surrounding markets.
What You'll Do
• Prepare complete and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects.
• Develop estimates for earthwork, grading, storm and sanitary sewer, water distribution, paving, site utilities, and related scopes.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from civil plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and other bid documents.
• Use estimating and takeoff platforms such as Agtek, HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar systems.
• Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Review bid documents, specifications, addenda, and scopes to identify risk, constructability concerns, cost drivers, and potential gaps.
• Develop and maintain unit-cost information, historical cost data, and productivity benchmarks.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and project clarifications.
• Assemble complete bid packages and ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Support project handoff following award, including scope reviews, buyout, and coordination with project management and operations.
• Help develop estimating standards, templates, processes, and best practices.
• Monitor material pricing, subcontractor availability, labor conditions, and other factors affecting the Texas heavy civil market.
What We're Looking For
• 5-7 years of civil estimating experience, preferably with a heavy civil, site development, underground utility, or infrastructure contractor.
• Texas or Gulf Coast estimating experience is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent hands-on estimating experience will also be considered.
• Strong quantity takeoff capabilities.
• Experience with civil estimating/takeoff software such as Agtek, HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of earthwork, grading, drainage, underground utilities, paving, and roadway construction methods and costs.
• Ability to interpret civil plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and survey information.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and tight bid deadlines.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills with subcontractors, suppliers, project teams, general contractors, and owners.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and standard construction technology.
• A collaborative, hands-on mindset and interest in helping build and improve an estimating operation.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
• Ground-floor influence within a growing Texas heavy civil operation.
• Exposure to a diversified pipeline spanning site development, utilities, roadway, water/wastewater, and infrastructure work.
• Direct partnership with construction, operations, and preconstruction leadership.
• Opportunity to help establish and improve estimating standards, templates, and workflows.
• Potential path toward Senior Estimator, Chief Estimator, or Preconstruction leadership as the organization scales.
Compensation
$100,000-$130,000 base salary annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications, plus performance bonus potential. A competitive employee benefits package is also offered.
