Private Client & Civil Litigation Solicitor

Edinburgh | Up to 10 years’ PQE | Flexible Working

Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience, plus potential bonus

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Annual Leave: 30 days, including public holidays

The Opportunity

An established and highly regarded Edinburgh legal practice is looking to recruit a Solicitor with experience in civil litigation, ideally including contentious private client matters, to join its growing Court team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive, close-knit firm with an established client base and a strong reputation across private client services, family law, residential conveyancing and estate agency.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to manage their own caseload, build strong client relationships and play an active role in the continued growth of the firm's civil litigation and contentious private client offering.

The position would suit a solicitor looking for a varied, client-facing role with genuine responsibility, opportunities to develop their expertise and the potential to progress as the practice continues to expand.

The Role

You will take responsibility for a varied caseload of civil litigation matters, with a particular focus on contentious private client work. You will work closely with clients, counsel and other professional advisers, providing clear, practical legal advice and ensuring matters are progressed efficiently and professionally.

You will be trusted to manage your own workload with a high degree of autonomy, while benefiting from the support of an experienced and collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage your own caseload of civil litigation matters, ideally including contentious private client disputes.
  • Handle court actions and court appearances, progressing cases effectively and proactively.
  • Provide clear, accurate and practical legal advice tailored to clients' needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, counsel, other solicitors and professional advisers.
  • Manage sensitive and often complex matters with professionalism, discretion and excellent client care.
  • Take ownership of matters from initial instruction through to resolution, ensuring work is delivered to a high standard and within appropriate timescales.
  • Contribute to the continued development and growth of the firm's litigation and contentious private client practice.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen client relationships and develop the department's services.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues while taking responsibility for your own caseload and professional development.

About You

The firm is keen to hear from solicitors with up to 10 years' post-qualification experience who have a strong grounding in Scottish civil litigation and are interested in developing their expertise further.

You will ideally bring:

  • Experience in civil litigation, preferably including contentious private client matters.
  • A strong working knowledge of relevant Scots law and litigation procedures.
  • Confidence in managing court actions and appearing in court.
  • The ability to manage your own caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A personable, client-focused approach and the ability to build rapport with clients and professional contacts.
  • Strong organisational skills, sound judgement and the ability to manage a varied workload and competing deadlines.
  • A proactive and enthusiastic attitude, with a genuine interest in developing your skills and contributing to the wider practice.

A willingness to get involved in the continued development of the department and identify opportunities to grow its offering would be particularly welcome.

Why Consider This Role?

  • Autonomy and responsibility: Manage your own caseload and take ownership of your matters.
  • Career development: Develop your expertise in civil litigation and contentious private client work, with scope to take on greater responsibility as the practice grows.
  • Supportive environment: Join an established, collaborative legal practice where client relationships and high-quality service are central.
  • Flexible working: Agile and flexible working arrangements are available, subject to business needs.
  • Attractive package: A competitive, negotiable salary based on experience, with the potential to earn bonuses.
  • Generous annual leave: 30 days of annual leave, inclusive of public holidays.

Interested?

If you are a Scottish-qualified Solicitor with civil litigation experience and are looking for an opportunity to develop your career within an established Edinburgh practice, we would be delighted to hear from you.

This is a particularly good opportunity for someone who enjoys client contact, values autonomy and wants to play a meaningful role in the continued growth of a specialist legal team.
