What they need

Location: Rockhampton

Remuneration/Benefit: Industry-leading Enterprise Agreement remuneration, including overtime and penalty rate entitlements, supported by strong career development opportunities.

Aurizon is seeking a Project Engineer to join the Construction Management team within Network.

Why join our team?

  • You'll work in one of the most dynamic sectors of construction. Rail closures are high-pressure, high-consequence environments where success comes from quality planning, teamwork and execution. The rewards are seeing your work delivered in real time and being part of a team trusted to keep critical freight infrastructure operating.
  • Enjoy long-term stability and certainty. Unlike many project delivery roles, you'll be part of a permanent team with a predictable pipeline of work and visibility of planned projects well into the future.
  • Be home most nights. This is not a FIFO or project-hopping contractor role. You'll have the opportunity to build a career while maintaining a lifestyle outside of work.
  • Plan your life with confidence. Our forward work program provides visibility of major works and shutdowns, allowing you to better coordinate leave, family commitments and personal interests.
  • Join a close-knit, high-performing team that supports one another and takes pride in delivering challenging projects safely and successfully.

About the Role:

In this role, you'll be responsible for managing the delivery of rail infrastructure projects across Aurizon's CQCN network, from initial customer engagement and project development through to construction and handover.

Working closely with customers, operations, maintenance teams, contractors and industry stakeholders, you'll develop project scopes, delivery strategies, programs and budgets, while providing technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle.

This is a hands-on role that combines engineering, project management and field leadership. You'll spend time both in the office and on site, overseeing construction activities, managing project risks, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental requirements, and driving project outcomes that deliver value for our customers and the business.

You'll join a highly experienced team delivering a diverse portfolio of rail infrastructure projects, offering the opportunity to take ownership of meaningful works, develop strong industry relationships and build a long-term career within Aurizon.

Other responsibilities will include but aren’t limited to:

  • Delivering asset renewal projects, maintenance and external projects covering general earthworks, formation, bridges, culverts, level crossings and other rail-associated works.
  • Provide support to project team throughout the entire project lifecycle, from tendering to project completion.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to identify and resolve delivery roadblocks and escalate when required.
  • Provide advice in relation to project planning and develop project cost estimates, risk assessments, development of construction methods, procedures and programs when required.
  • Managing Contractor’s safety performance, project progress, conformance with scope of work, contract deliverables, quality standards and specifications.
  • Provide support and supervision to field operations, ensuring work complies with quality, safety, environmental standards and other relevant standards and legislation and foster a culture of excellence in project outcomes.
  • Identifying design and constructability issues and assist in providing the most efficient solution.

About you:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil preferred).
  • CPEng/RPEQ qualifications (or working towards).
  • Current Class C Drivers Licence (mandatory).
  • Ideally 5 years' experience in project delivery across mid to large-scale civil projects (essential).
  • High level of skill in planning, organising, and programming of infrastructure construction projects.
  • Familiarity with WHS and Environmental legislation and ability to produce Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), understand company Quality procedures and WHS Act.
  • Strong level of computer skills, including Microsoft and Primavera (preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills both written and verbal.
  • Willing to commit to travel as needed and willing to relocate to Rockhampton for the role (NO FIFO/DIDO).
  • A self-starter with a strong work ethic, accountability and ownership mindset, who proactively drives solutions and delivers outcomes with minimal supervision.

What we offer you:

At Aurizon, we support the development and growth of our employees. With a national portfolio of operations, we offer long-term and exciting career opportunities.
