What they need
THE OPPORTUNITY
Have an EU passport, and ever thought about taking your New Zealand construction experience back to Europe?
We are recruiting experienced Civil Project Managers for some of Europe’s largest data centre and major construction projects — programmes of a scale and technical complexity that few markets can offer, at a point where demand for proven construction management talent substantially exceeds supply.
This is not necessarily about packing everything up and permanently moving to wherever the project happens to be. Many of these opportunities operate on 17/4 or 10/4 rotations, with accommodation and project flights paid for, which gives you the chance to build a life in Europe while working on major international projects.
Depending on the project, you could base yourself elsewhere in the EU and fly in for your rotation — Dublin, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Warsaw, Prague or another European city. You work your rotation, then spend your time off at home or travelling.
WHERE YOU COULD WORK
Finland — major data centre investment, excellent infrastructure, incredible summers, outstanding access to nature, and highly attractive low-tax arrangements on qualifying projects.
Sweden — major projects across the country, attractive tax arrangements on qualifying assignments, and the chance to experience Scandinavian living while contributing to genuinely career-defining developments.
Germany — one of Europe’s largest construction markets, with significant opportunities across data centres, advanced manufacturing and other large-scale developments.
Netherlands — major international projects combined with excellent connectivity, making it remarkably easy to travel throughout Europe during your time off.
Portugal — potential opportunities on major projects, offering the chance to combine European earning potential with an exceptional climate and lifestyle.
WHAT THE PACKAGES INCLUDE
- Accommodation paid in full
- Project and rotation flights paid in full
- 10/4 or 17/4 rotation patterns, depending on the project
- Living away and travel allowances on top of base salary on selected projects
- Attractive tax arrangements on qualifying assignments
- Sign-on bonuses available on some projects
WHAT THE MOVE CAN LOOK LIKE
A Senior Project Manager we recently placed from Wellington was earning NZ$140,000 plus a vehicle. He moved to a major data centre project in Germany on the following first-year package:
Base salary — €125,000 (approx. NZ$250,000)
Living away allowance — €20,000 (approx. NZ$40,000)
Travel allowance — €12,000 (approx. NZ$24,000)
Sign-on bonus — €10,000 (approx. NZ$20,000)
Total first-year cash package — €167,000 (approx. NZ$334,000)
Accommodation and project flights were paid in full by the employer, on top of the figures above.
WHY THIS IS WORTH CONSIDERING
It is not only about earning more, although the numbers are compelling. It is the opportunity to spend your time off travelling Europe, to live in a completely different part of the world, to contribute to some of the largest construction projects on the continent, and to add genuine international data centre experience to your CV — experience that will follow you for the rest of your career, wherever you eventually settle.
You have built your career in New Zealand. This is a chance to take that experience back to Europe and change the next stage of both your career and your lifestyle.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Proven experience as a Project Manager on major construction projects, with a strong civil engineering or construction background
- Track record on large-scale, technically complex developments — data centre or mission critical exposure is beneficial but not essential
- Strong programme, commercial and stakeholder management capability across multidisciplinary teams
- Consistent company tenure. Our clients on these programmes look for stability, and applications showing an average of 18 months to two years per employer are unlikely to progress
- Comfortable working a rotational pattern on international projects
- EU passport is essential for these roles — we are unable to progress applications without one
