What they need

Shape a future with purpose at Arup in the Netherlands. Design resilient site infrastructure for complex developments.

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Our multidisciplinary team delivers integrated civil engineering solutions for data centres, science and technology facilities, industrial developments, commercial projects and healthcare facilities. You will help shape well-connected, resilient sites by bringing together roads, drainage, earthworks, water networks and underground utilities.

The Opportunity Join our Netherlands infrastructure practice and take a leading role in the design and coordination of site development projects. You will contribute from feasibility through detailed design and construction, working closely with clients and specialists across architecture, structures, MEP, landscape and environmental disciplines. The role offers direct client engagement, responsibility for design packages and opportunities to support the development of junior colleagues and digital engineering workflows.

The role can be based in Amsterdam or Utrecht. Other locations in the Netherlands may be considered depending on the candidate profile. Hybrid working is available, typically with 2-3 days in the office.

As a Senior Civil Site Development Engineer at Arup, you will:

  • Lead civil engineering assessments, designs, work packages and smaller projects for complex site development programmes.
  • Develop roads, parking, grading, earthworks, stormwater and foul drainage, water supply and underground utility solutions using Civil 3D, AutoCAD and related tools.
  • Prepare design calculations, reports, specifications and drawings, and contribute to quality reviews, approvals and permitting activities.
  • Coordinate integrated solutions with clients, authorities and multidisciplinary design teams, including architecture, structures, MEP, landscape and environmental specialists.
  • Support project delivery through client meetings, coordination workshops, site visits and construction inspections, while mentoring graduate and early career engineers.

Does this role inspire you? About We're looking for someone who is passionate about practical, sustainable site infrastructure and enjoys turning multidisciplinary challenges into coordinated engineering solutions. We also value:

  • Approximately 6 to 10 years of relevant civil engineering experience, including leading work packages or smaller projects and engaging directly with clients.
  • Strong capability in site infrastructure design, including drainage, stormwater management, roads and pavements, earthworks, grading, water and wastewater systems, and utility coordination.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D; experience with InfoDrainage or comparable hydraulic modelling software is an advantage.
  • A relevant BSc or BEng degree, with chartered status or progress towards an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary designs and supporting junior engineers; data centre or other complex development experience is particularly welcome.
