What they need
A carpenter mason performs both carpentry and masonry tasks, involving the construction and repair of structures. This role requires the use of various hand and power tools and a strong understanding of masonry techniques, often in physically demanding conditions.
Carpentry duties
- Reading blueprints to determine project layout and materials
Masonry duties
- Ensuring proper alignment and spacing of materials using levels and plumb lines
- Plastering and finishing concrete or masonry surfaces
- Repairing or replacing damaged masonry
Common responsibilities
- Interpreting technical drawings and specifications
- Using a variety of hand and power tools and equipment
- Maintaining a clean and safe job site
- Moving materials around the job site
- Measuring, cutting, shaping, and fitting materials like wood, plastic, and other composites
- Assembling and fastening materials for frameworks, floors, walls, and roofs
- Installing fixtures
