Make a Real Difference When It Matters Most

As a Claims or Benefits Administrator, you are a trusted point of contact for Union Members — guiding them through the disability claims process and/or helping them understand and access the benefits they've earned. You provide clear, empathetic communication and dependable follow-through, ensuring Members feel informed, supported, and financially secure during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

We're looking for dependable, detail-oriented team players who take pride in showing up, communicating clearly, and following through. This is a critical role for someone who values meaningful, people-centered work, accuracy, and being part of a team that truly makes a difference.

At Union One, our work directly impacts Union Members when illness or injury disrupts their ability to work and earn an income.

General Overview

  • Act as a primary point of contact for Union Members via phone and email, guiding them step-by-step through the claims process and benefit enrollment, coverage, and billing questions
  • Communicate professionally and empathetically, providing clear explanations, reassurance, and timely updates
  • Review policies and verify eligibility according to plan guidelines; provide clear, accurate explanations of plan details and benefit options
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers to obtain medical records and required documentation
  • Prepare and submit complete, accurate claims to insurance carriers so benefits are not delayed
  • Proactively follow up with insurance partners to resolve issues and move claims forward
  • Process and maintain accurate data and policy updates across multiple administrative systems
  • Develop and maintain strong working knowledge of policy booklets, plan details, and benefit procedures
  • Monitor and manage inbound and outbound communications, including email, fax, and mail
  • Support reporting needs and conduct regular enrollment and billing audits to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Organize and maintain a high-volume caseload with accuracy, efficiency, and strong attention to detail

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • You are reliable, punctual, and consistent — your team and Members can count on you
  • You take ownership of your work and follow through on commitments
  • You communicate clearly, professionally, and confidently
  • You stay organized and focused, even while managing multiple priorities and a high volume of inquiries
  • You understand that your attention to detail and consistency directly affect a Member's trust, financial security, and ability to focus on recovery
  • You value teamwork and recognize how your role impacts others

What We're Looking For

  • Obtain an Illinois Life & Health Insurance License (employer-paid) within the first 30 days of employment
  • Typing speed of 50+ WPM
  • Experience in insurance, customer service, call center, or administrative support (healthcare, dental, mortgage, or benefits administration experience a plus)
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Empathy, professionalism, and emotional intelligence
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure, including high call volume
