What they need

Description

Girls in Gear emboldens girls of all ages and abilities, especially low-income girls and girls of color, by using bike skills to foster confidence, autonomy, and independence. Our programs - Pedal Power, Glide-to-Ride, and Camp GiG - offer safe, inclusive spaces for growth, focusing on life skills beyond biking. With a no-questions-asked scholarship policy, we remove barriers by providing bikes, helmets, and financial support, ensuring every girl has the opportunity to thrive. Our vision is for a world where every girl grows into her most brilliant, tenacious, and confident self, on and off her bike. Our Clark County Program Director must be fully committed to our mission and growing our program.

This position is salaried and home-based ($20/hour). We ask for a 5-day work week with flexible scheduling. Because our program runs seasonally, hours will be concentrated in the lead up to and during the seasons. In season, 15-20 hour weeks are to be expected. Our seasons run from September-November, February-April, and June, so the busiest times include the months prior to the season start.

Note that site visits are on weekday afternoons and weekend mornings, so an ideal candidate has a flexible schedule and reliable transportation. The job requires extensive travel throughout the Clark County area. The ideal candidate has relationships with community organizations within this area.

The Clark County Program Director reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for the management of all Girls in Gear programming and growth in the area.

Key job responsibilities include:

Program and Site Management

  • Develop new relationships working to sustainably expand our presence amongst sponsors, community partners, and participant families.
  • Identify and lay the groundwork for new program sites in the program region. The employee will be responsible for communicating and interfacing with program sites, stakeholders, volunteers, and coaches.
  • Act as the overall coordinator for program sites throughout the region, both new, and existing.
  • Manage on-person visits to program sites to ensure that the Girls in Gear curriculum and program are being presented in a way that is consistent with our mission and standards.
  • Uphold Girls in Gear’s policies and procedures.
  • Generate new ideas for best practices to better serve our riders, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  • Maintain and collect registration data from local program sites (as needed).
  • Attend staff meetings, community events, and training.
  • Be the face of Girls in Gear to generate community-wide publicity.

Volunteer Management

  • Recruit and retain volunteers of any gender identities and riding abilities to serve as volunteer coaches.
  • Manage volunteer, program, and recruitment databases, registration forms, and applications.
  • Ensure all program sites are facilitated by qualified volunteer coaches.
  • Enforce all current coaching policies and procedures and generate continuous improvement.
  • Communicate regularly with coaches regarding trainings and meetings.
  • Organize and facilitate coaches’ meetings as needed.
  • Oversee Clark County regional board

Curriculum/Equipment Management

  • Manage, organize, and distribute the bike fleet and helmets for riders in need.
  • Prepare coach materials for all sites.
  • Manage inventory, distribution, and storage of program curriculum, shirts, materials, and supplies.
  • Collect curriculum and materials at the end of the season.

Physical & Operational Requirements

This is an active, hands-on role. The ideal candidate:

  • Can lift and transport bikes, helmets, and gear (up to approximately 30 lbs per bike).
  • Is comfortable loading and unloading bikes from vehicles.
  • Can safely transport equipment across Clark County.
  • Is willing to be outdoors in varied weather conditions during programming.
  • Has reliable personal transportation suitable for transporting bikes and supplies.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong alignment with the Girls in Gear mission.
  • Excellent communication skills across diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience managing projects and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and problem-solve independently.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable in a dynamic, growing organization.
  • Experience supervising teams or volunteers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with biking, cycling culture, or bike safety (enthusiasm for biking strongly preferred).
  • Experience coaching youth or working in youth development programs.
  • Knowledge of basic bike handling and comfort supporting beginner riders.
  • Existing relationships within the Clark County community.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred.

To support your success, you can expect:

  • Plenty of potential to grow and expand the role
  • The opportunity for hands-on, tactical experience and to grow and develop within a growing, mission-centric organization
  • Enthusiastic encouragement and celebration of your success
  • A work culture that trusts and empowers you to work autonomously
  • Active, reliable, and ongoing professional development opportunities
