Class 1 HGV Driver

Job Summary

We are seeking reliable, professional and skilled Class 1 HGV Drivers to join our logistics team. The successful candidates will be responsible for the safe and timely delivery of goods, ensuring all deliveries are completed efficiently and in accordance with company policies. This role requires a strong commitment to safety and customer service.

You must be able to demonstrate a high level of driving competence, have a flexible approach to your work.

Due to insurance requirements, you must have a minimum of 2 years’ UK Class 1 driving experience and be aged over 25.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general driving duties, observing current legal requirements and industry best practice when delivering to and collecting from customers’ premises or other locations.
• Maintain a professional standard when representing Trans Haul while driving, delivering or collecting products.
• Carry out pre-use checks before using any vehicle, trailer or equipment, complying with all appropriate documentation and procedures.
• Operate HGVs safely and efficiently, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
• Plan and execute delivery routes efficiently, maintaining punctuality and meeting operational schedules.
• Ensure vehicle loads are safe, damage-free and secured using the appropriate restraints in accordance with company procedures and Safe Systems of Work.
• Communicate effectively with transport planners, the wider team and customers regarding delivery schedules and any potential delays.
• Report any vehicle defects, damage or Health & Safety concerns promptly to Trans Haul management.
• Maintain accurate delivery records, logs, manifests and other required documentation.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness, using all equipment safely and in accordance with operating procedures and Safe Systems of Work.
• Comply with all drivers’ hours, tachograph and Working Time Directive regulations.
• Adhere to all Health & Safety requirements, comply with rules at customer and other sites, and maintain high standards of compliance, hygiene and housekeeping.
• Operate in accordance with all Trans Haul policies and procedures.
• Comply with any other reasonable requests from Management.
• Maintain a professional manner when interacting with customers and provide excellent customer service at all times.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

• Minimum of 2 years’ Class 1 HGV driving experience within the UK.
• Strong understanding of drivers’ hours regulations and tachograph legislation.
• Valid Driver CPC (DCPC) qualification.
• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Experience of loading, unloading and delivering goods to customer premises.
• Good geographical knowledge of the UK.
• Current Driver Qualification Card.
• Current and working Digital Tachograph Card.
• Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and safe load transportation.
• Excellent time-management skills with the ability to meet delivery deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts and undertake nights out where operationally required.

Qualifications

• Valid UK Class 1 (Category C+E) HGV driving licence.
• Current Driver CPC / Driver Qualification Card.
• Current Digital Tachograph Card.
• Minimum 2 years’ proven UK Class 1 driving experience.
