You’ll carry out inspections at different stages of construction, refurbishment, and occupation, checking that work follows approved plans, building regulations, and relevant safety requirements. Your work will play an important part in protecting public safety and helping to ensure buildings are completed to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out inspections of buildings during construction, renovation, and occupancy.
- Check that work complies with approved plans, building regulations, safety standards, and other relevant requirements.

- Record inspection findings clearly and accurately and prepare detailed reports where required.
- Work closely with contractors, property owners, architects, developers, and other professionals to explain requirements and discuss any issues identified.
- Review building plans and applications to ensure they meet the relevant regulatory requirements.
- Investigate reported building defects, compliance concerns, and potential safety issues, and recommend appropriate action.
- Keep up to date with changes to building regulations, legislation, safety standards, and industry practices.
- Manage multiple inspections effectively while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and professionalism.
What We’re Looking For
- Current registration or recognised certification as a Building Inspector with the appropriate regulatory body.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess different building systems and identify potential compliance issues.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce clear, accurate inspection records and reports.
- Good communication skills and confidence when dealing with contractors, property owners, architects, developers, and public-sector colleagues.
- The ability to read and understand technical drawings, plans, and specifications.

- The ability to work independently, organise your workload, and manage several inspections in a busy environment.
- A professional and practical approach, with a strong commitment to building safety and compliance.
