Class 5 Civil Driver

About the role

We've got a real variety of Class 5 roles on civil sites across Christchurch, Rolleston and Rangiora. Most are truck and trailer units — tipulators and other combinations — carting bulk material for our long-term clients. Some are specialist transporter roles, moving machinery between sites. Some are seasonal, carting hotmix as the asphalt season gets going. And a few are specialist hydro truck roles. It's all civil and earthworks work — not line haul. Most roles are day shift, with some nights available.

A quick word on right to work

You'll need to already be living in New Zealand with the right to work here. These roles are based in Canterbury and we're not offering visa sponsorship, so if you're not currently in NZ with existing work rights, we won't be able to consider your application.

Key responsibilities

• Drive Class 5 truck and trailer units, tipulators and other combinations — on civil and earthworks sites

• Bulk cartage — tipping, spreading and moving material between sites

• Transporter work — load, secure and move machinery between jobs

• Seasonal hotmix cartage as the asphalt season runs

• Specialist hydro truck work for the right people

• Get out of the cab and give the crew a hand when it's needed

About you

• A full, current Class 5 licence

• Real civil site experience — tipping and bulk cartage

• Someone who respects the truck and looks after the gear

• The right to work in NZ (no sponsorship, sorry)

• This role includes pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing

Even better if you've got

• Experience transporting heavy machinery — loading, securing, and backing a transporter into a tight spot

• Sharp jackknifing skills

• Hotmix or hydro-excavation truck experience

• Your WTR endorsement, ConstructSafe or Site Safe, and Traffic Management tickets

About us

MLH is a Canterbury labour hire company that places drivers with good local civil contractors. You'll be a proper MLH employee — not a contractor, and not a number in a pool. You'll work on our clients' sites, but you're our staff, and we look after you like it, with one person at MLH who knows you and knows the job.
