About the role

The Picton Driver plays a key operational role within the Picton Freight Terminal, supporting the safe and efficient movement of freight, vehicles and cargo through the port operation. This position supports the wider terminal operation by helping assemble, consolidate and move cargo within the terminal and Port of Marlborough area, completing pre-acceptance checks, ensuring cargo-carrying equipment is fit for use, and maintaining a safe, tidy and well-organised work environment. The role requires a strong focus on safety, reliability, teamwork and operational discipline, as it directly supports vessel turnaround, freight flow, customer service and the overall efficiency of the Bluebridge inter-island operation.

Key responsibilities

• Attend all vessels to handle the mooring lines for arrivals and departures
• Load and discharge unattended cars, LCL freight, machinery, light or heavy trucks and trailers, semis and b-trains on and off the vessels at the request of the duty mate
• Assist with the efficient assembly and consolidation of cargo within the terminal area
• Assist with the delivery of cargo within the Port of Marlborough
• Assist with pre-acceptance checks on cargo condition
• Ensure that cargo carrying equipment is fit for use prior to loading
• Maintain the terminal area in a safe and tidy condition
• Report any maintenance requirements to company equipment promptly and through the correct channels
• Comply with StraitNZ's Health and Safety policy and guidelines and take all reasonably practicable steps to ensure their own safety and the safety of others in the workplace in line with the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015
