Responsibilities

• Safely operate Class B commercial vehicles, including school buses, transit buses, and vans, following all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations
• Transport passengers efficiently while maintaining punctuality and adhering to scheduled routes
• Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, providing wheelchair assistance and support for individuals with mobility challenges
• Ensure passenger safety by enforcing behavior management policies and maintaining order onboard
• Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to identify mechanical issues and ensure vehicle readiness
• Respond swiftly to traffic changes or emergencies with quick decision-making and appropriate emergency response procedures such as emergency stops or traffic rerouting
• Communicate effectively with dispatchers, passengers, and team members using clear language in English or multilingual formats when necessary
• Follow school policies or organizational guidelines related to student discipline, childcare protocols, or senior care requirements

Requirements

• Valid Class B CDL with appropriate endorsements for passenger transportation
• Proven experience operating buses or transit vehicles in compliance with state and local commercial driving laws
• Knowledge of transportation safety regulations, vehicle codes, and emergency response procedures for transportation
• Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities
• Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment
• Familiarity with school policy knowledge, student discipline procedures, or senior care protocols preferred
• Mechanical knowledge for basic vehicle troubleshooting and maintenance awareness
• Valid first aid and CPR certifications; knowledge of emergency stop procedures essential for passenger safety
• Experience working with children or elderly populations demonstrating patience and behavior management skills
