Class C Welder

Job Overview

Sureway is a leading metal fabricator located in suburban Chicago. We are actively working to expand our market base into additional areas of metal fabrication, leading to the potential for an increase in staff.

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Class C Welder Operator. This role involves following established processes, performing production welding, basic inspection, and maintaining accurate production records.

Key Responsibilities

· Must be able to work with welding standards and specifications

· Fabricate and utilize simple jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and other basic tooling in accordance with established drawings, layouts, work orders, blueprints, and production requirements to support the welding and assembly of metal parts.

· Ensure set up/1st pc inspections are completed to ensure conformance with quality standards.

· Responsible for ensuring work in process inspections.

· Clock in/out of ERP system when performing set ups, for accurate accounting.

· Clock into job in ERP system when running production, record quantities produced (including any scrap) and clock out at the end of job, for accurate accounting.

· Reports directly to Welding Supervisor and advises of any problems that may occur.

· Follow established welding procedures/specifications.

· Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Quality Expectations

• Excellent workmanship and attention to detail, particularly in the TIG welding applications.
• Clean, consistent, and uniform weld appearance.
• Smooth cosmetic finishes with minimal grinding or rework required.
• Proper weld penetration and structural integrity.
• Low defect and rework rates.
• Compliance with customer quality requirements and industry standards.

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 1-3 years in TIG welding and metal fabrication.

· Demonstrated ability to perform TIG welding on multiple material types, including:

o Stainless steel

o Aluminum

o Cold rolled steel

o Galvanized steel

o Other specialty alloys

· Proficiency in TIG welding.

• Knowledge of welding standards and blueprints, familiarity with ERP systems and quality inspection.
• Proficient in creating jigs, and fixtures, strong attention to detail and problem-solving, effective communication.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to stand, bend, lift, and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods.

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.

· Ability to safely operate welding equipment and related shop tools.

Work Environment

This position operates in a manufacturing/shop environment and requires compliance with all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.

Compensation

$20.00 to $25.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
