Job Summary

G.D. Goenka Public School, Kolkata, is seeking an experienced and creative Classical Dance Teacher to provide structured dance training to students and coordinate performances for school events and programmes. The ideal candidate should have formal training in a recognised classical dance form, relevant qualifications or certifications, and substantial practical experience in choreographing and conducting stage performances, cultural programmes, and school functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct structured classical dance classes for students across different age groups and proficiency levels.
• Teach the techniques, movements, expressions, rhythm, posture, and traditional aspects of the relevant classical dance form.
• Prepare students for stage performances, cultural celebrations, annual functions, competitions, and other school programmes.
• Choreograph performances according to the theme, occasion, student age group, and programme requirements.
• Plan and coordinate rehearsals, costumes, music, formations, and stage movements.
• Manage and prepare multiple student groups for different school events within specified timelines.
• Identify talented students and provide additional guidance to develop their performance skills.
• Collaborate with teachers, activity coordinators, and school management to ensure the smooth execution of programmes.
• Maintain discipline, punctuality, and appropriate student conduct during classes and rehearsals.
• Ensure that dance instruction and performances are age-appropriate and comply with school guidelines.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Formal training, a recognised diploma, degree, or relevant certification in a classical dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi, Manipuri, or another recognised Indian classical dance form.
• Proven experience in teaching the relevant dance form, preferably in a school, dance academy, cultural institution, or similar organisation.
• Demonstrated experience in choreographing and conducting stage shows, cultural programmes, annual functions, or other large-scale events.
• Ability to manage multiple student groups and prepare performances within school event schedules.
• Practical experience in coordinating rehearsals, stage presentations, and group performances.
• Relevant course completion certificates, diplomas, performance credentials, and supporting documents must be available for verification.
• Experience in school-level cultural programmes and inter-school dance competitions will be an advantage.

• Strong choreography, performance, and student-training abilities.
• Excellent classroom management, communication, and organisational skills.
• Creativity, patience, discipline, and the ability to motivate young learners.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with the school team and manage multiple programmes simultaneously.
