Every day, Wärtsilians around the world put their hearts and minds into turning our purpose, enabling sustainable societies through innovation in technology and services, into reality.

As our business continues to grow, we're looking for forward-thinking talent who want to make an impact while building a long-term future. At Wärtsilä, you can build a career, not just a role, with opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute to work that matters. Join a company with a strong foundation, an exciting future, and a career path built to last. Want to join the ride?

Wärtsilä Global Logistics Services in Kampen operates our Central Distribution Centre, supplying more than 100,000 technical spare parts to customers across the Marine and Energy industries worldwide.

As a Master Data Classification Engineer, you will work in a technical and logistics environment, ensuring accurate material master data related to the classification of spare parts. You will support the timely classification and re-classification of parts to meet customer delivery requirements, while working closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers and classification societies.

You will join an experienced and passionate team of classification engineers, documentation specialists and tuning specialists working closely together in a fast-paced international environment. This role also gives you exposure to cost-saving initiatives, process development and the practical use of AI within classification activities.

The position is permanent and based at our Global Distribution Centre in Kampen, the Netherlands.

What will you be doing?

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain material master data related to the classification of spare parts.
  • Ensure and support re-classification activities so that required customer delivery dates can be met on time.
  • Analyze classification requirements and determine the appropriate default classification society.
  • Collaborate closely with Purchasing, Technical, Parts Coordination and Quality teams, as well as suppliers, customers and classification societies.
  • Contribute to classification-related cost-saving initiatives together with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Support improvements and increased efficiency within classification processes.
  • Contribute to the practical use and development of AI agents and AI-enabled solutions within classification activities.
  • Ensure that classification documentation and related data are accurate and up to date.

What do we expect from you?

We are looking for someone with technical understanding, a proactive mindset and natural curiosity. You enjoy finding the right answer and are comfortable researching technical information and classification requirements when the solution is not immediately obvious.

You bring:

  • Technical education or relevant technical working experience.
  • Understanding of diesel engines, rotating equipment and/or propulsion technology.
  • A self-starter mentality and the ability to take ownership of your work.
  • Natural curiosity and a research-oriented mindset, with the willingness to dig into classification rules and technical requirements to find the correct solution.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with different stakeholders.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • An interest in data, digitalization and AI-supported ways of working.
  • Experience in a technical logistics environment is considered an advantage.

What makes this role interesting?

This role combines technical knowledge, data and classification expertise in an international logistics environment. You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of classification requirements, work with a broad range of technical spare parts and contribute to cost-saving initiatives, process development and new AI-supported ways of working.
