Classroom Aide

The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing high-quality care and education in the classroom. This role helps maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment that promotes the development of children in alignment with Iowa Early Learning Standards.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and implementing daily lesson plans and activities.
• Supervise children and actively participate in classroom activities.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
• Communicate with parents as directed and assist with conferences.
• Complete daily observations and contribute to child evaluations.
• Provide positive guidance for children’s behavior.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Director.

Professional Growth and Development

• Complete required Iowa HHS training within the first three months of employment:
• Mandatory Reporter Training for child abuse.
• At least one hour of Universal Precautions training (OSHA standard).
• Pediatric CPR certification (infant, child, adult) and pediatric first aid certification.
• Maintain current certifications and complete annual continuing education as required by Iowa HHS.

Health and Safety Requirements:

• Complete a staff physical examination within 6 months of employment.
• Provide documentation of a TB test as required by Iowa HHS.
• Fingerprinting and background checks prior to employment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to meet Iowa HHS requirements for childcare staff.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift at minimum 30 lbs. routinely.
• Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and reaching.
• Exposure to temperature changes, humidity, odors, and infectious conditions.
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively with staff and families.
