Meadows Tree Family Hub

Reports to: Nursery Manager

Hours: Part-time

About Meadows Tree

Meadows Tree is a new, family-led Early Years setting in Ipswich, created to provide children with a nurturing, safe and inspiring environment in which they can learn, develop and thrive.

Every member of our team plays an important part in creating an environment where children and families feel safe, comfortable and welcomed. As we prepare to open our doors, we're looking for a reliable and conscientious Cleaner to join our founding team.

The Role

As our Cleaner, you'll be responsible for helping us maintain an exceptionally clean, safe and hygienic nursery environment for our children, families and staff.

This is an important role within an Early Years setting. Maintaining high standards of cleanliness supports children's health and wellbeing, helps reduce the spread of infection and ensures our nursery remains a welcoming environment that families can feel confident in.

You'll work across the nursery, including children's rooms, bathrooms, communal spaces, offices and other designated areas, following our cleaning schedules and health and safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Cleaning and Maintaining the Nursery

  • Carry out regular cleaning across the nursery in accordance with the setting's cleaning schedule.
  • Clean children's playrooms, bathrooms, communal areas, offices and other designated spaces.
  • Clean and disinfect floors, surfaces, furniture, equipment and toys to a high standard.
  • Carry out deeper cleaning tasks when required.
  • Ensure high-touch areas receive appropriate and regular attention.
  • Help maintain a clean, tidy and welcoming environment throughout the setting.
  • Report any damage, wear, hazards or maintenance concerns identified while carrying out your duties.

These responsibilities reflect the cleaning standards set out in the existing role description.

Health, Safety and Hygiene

  • Follow Meadows Tree's cleaning, hygiene and infection-control procedures.
  • Use, store and dispose of cleaning products safely and in accordance with COSHH requirements.
  • Ensure cleaning products, chemicals and equipment are securely stored and inaccessible to children at all times.
  • Respond appropriately to spills, accidents and bodily fluids in accordance with nursery procedures.
  • Use appropriate PPE when required.
  • Work carefully around children, staff and visitors and ensure cleaning activities do not create unnecessary hazards.

Cleaning Supplies

  • Monitor cleaning products, equipment and consumable stock levels.
  • Let the Nursery Manager or Administration Manager know when supplies need replenishing.
  • Use cleaning products and equipment responsibly and economically.
  • Help ensure cleaning equipment is kept clean, safe and in good working condition.

Safeguarding and Working as Part of the Team

  • Understand that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility within Meadows Tree.
  • Report any concerns regarding a child's welfare immediately in accordance with our safeguarding procedures.
  • Follow the nursery's security and visitor procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding children, families and colleagues.
  • Work cooperatively with the wider nursery team.
  • Be flexible in responding to reasonable changes in cleaning priorities where required to support the safe and smooth running of the nursery.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Previous cleaning or domestic work experience, ideally within a commercial, education, childcare or similar environment.
  • Good understanding of hygiene and cleanliness standards.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to follow cleaning schedules and instructions consistently.
  • Reliable and punctual approach to work.
  • Willingness to undertake the appropriate safer recruitment checks, including an Enhanced DBS check.

Desirable

  • Previous experience cleaning within a nursery, school or childcare setting.
  • Understanding of infection prevention and control.
  • Basic knowledge of COSHH requirements.
  • Paediatric First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake relevant training.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • takes pride in maintaining exceptionally high standards of cleanliness;
  • is reliable, punctual and trustworthy;
  • has excellent attention to detail;
  • can work confidently and independently;
  • understands the importance of hygiene within an environment caring for young children;
  • is discreet and respects confidentiality;
  • is willing to work as part of the wider Meadows Tree team;
  • notices when something isn't quite right and takes appropriate action; and
  • understands that safeguarding children is the responsibility of everyone working within the setting.

Why Join Meadows Tree?

You'll be joining Meadows Tree at the very beginning of our journey and becoming part of the team responsible for establishing the standards our children and families experience from day one.

Although you won't be working in a practitioner role, the environment you create will directly contribute to children's safety, health and wellbeing. We want every member of our team to understand the value their role brings to the nursery.

Safer Recruitment

Meadows Tree Family Hub is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be subject to our safer recruitment procedures, including appropriate identity and right-to-work checks, satisfactory references and an Enhanced DBS check.

We are committed to building an inclusive team that reflects the children, families and wider community we serve, and welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds.
