Job Summary

Cleaner – Residential Care Home - Part Time

Responsible to

Registered Manager

Job Purpose

To maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for residents, visitors, and staff, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and infection prevention in line with CQC Fundamental Standards.

Key Responsibilities

Cleaning & Hygiene

• Clean and maintain all areas of the care home including:
• Bedrooms
• Communal areas
• Bathrooms and toilets
• Offices and corridors
• Follow agreed cleaning schedules and checklists
• Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and correctly
• Ensure high standards of infection prevention and control at all times

Infection Prevention & Control

• Follow IPC policies and procedures, including colour-coded cleaning systems
• Pay particular attention to high-touch areas
• Support outbreak control measures when required

Health & Safety

• Follow health and safety guidance at all times
• Report hazards, accidents, or faulty equipment promptly
• Use PPE as required

Waste Management & Laundry Support

• Dispose of waste safely and in line with policies
• Support laundry duties if required, including safe handling of soiled linen

Dignity, Respect & Communication

• Respect residents’ privacy and dignity at all times
• Be polite and professional with residents, families, and colleagues
• Report any concerns regarding cleanliness or resident wellbeing

Safeguarding

• Safeguard residents by reporting any concerns in line with safeguarding policies
• Understand your duty of care and professional responsibilities

Person Specification

Essential

• Experience in cleaning (care, healthcare, or domestic setting preferred)
• Understanding of cleaning standards and infection control
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Reliable, flexible, and conscientious

Desirable

• Experience in a residential care or healthcare environment
• Knowledge of CQC standards relating to safe environments

Additional Information

• Enhanced DBS check required
• Training will be provided
• Weekend and bank holiday working required.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: £12.71-£12.90 per hour
