Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Clearing and Forwarding Officer to coordinate import and export documentation, customs clearance, cargo handling, and shipment logistics. The successful candidate will ensure that goods are cleared and delivered efficiently, documentation is accurate, and all shipping and customs procedures comply with applicable regulations.

Job Description

• Coordinate the clearing and forwarding of imported and exported goods through ports, airports, and other approved entry and exit points.
• Prepare, review, and process shipping documents, including bills of lading, invoices, packing lists, delivery orders, and certificates of origin.
• Liaise with customs officials, shipping companies, freight forwarders, terminal operators, transporters, and relevant government agencies.
• Coordinate customs declarations and clearance procedures in line with applicable import and export regulations.
• Monitor shipments from dispatch to final delivery and provide updates on shipment status.
• Ensure all required permits, licences, certificates, and supporting documents are available before cargo clearance.
• Follow up on customs assessments, duties, taxes, terminal charges, and other clearance-related payments.
• Arrange cargo collection, transportation, and delivery to designated locations.
• Track shipment schedules and resolve delays, documentation errors, and other clearance issues.
• Maintain accurate records of shipments, customs documentation, payments, and delivery confirmations.
• Verify freight invoices and other logistics charges to ensure accuracy.
• Communicate with clients and internal departments regarding shipment progress, clearance requirements, and delivery timelines.
• Monitor changes in customs procedures, import and export regulations, and shipping requirements.
• Ensure proper handling of confidential shipment and client information.
• Prepare regular reports on shipment status, clearance costs, delivery timelines, and operational activities.
• Identify opportunities to reduce clearance costs, minimize delays, and improve logistics efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, customs regulations, and relevant trade requirements.

Requirements/Skills

• Bachelor's degree or HND in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, Business Administration, International Trade, or a related field.
• Proven years of relevant experience in clearing and forwarding, freight forwarding, shipping, or logistics operations.
• Good understanding of import and export procedures and customs clearance documentation.
• Familiarity with Nigerian port operations and relevant customs and trade regulations.
• Experience dealing with shipping lines, terminal operators, customs agents, and transport companies.
• Strong documentation, record-keeping, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and shipment tracking or logistics management systems.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple shipments and meet strict deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify documentation discrepancies.
• High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
• Relevant professional training or certification in freight forwarding, customs operations, or logistics is an added advantage.

Pay: ₦150,000.00 per month
