What they need
Client Development Manager
Commercial Interiors | Design & Build | Auckland
The strongest businesses don't wait for the market to improve. They invest ahead of it.
That's exactly what Impact Interiors & Construction is doing.
Impact has built an excellent reputation within the commercial interiors market through quality delivery, trusted relationships and a genuine commitment to its clients.
Now, they're investing in the next stage of their growth.
The Placement Co. is partnering with Impact to appoint a Client Development Manager who will play a pivotal role in strengthening the front end of the business and growing its presence within the commercial interiors design & build space.
This is a newly created role, with genuine opportunity to make it your own.
This isn't your traditional BDM role.
We're not looking for someone whose primary skill is making cold calls or chasing tenders.
We're looking for someone who understands how commercial interiors projects are actually won.
The best opportunities are often created well before a project reaches the open market.
You know who is relocating.
You know which organisations are planning workplace changes.
You know which project managers, architects, designers and property professionals are influencing the project.
And you understand how to build the relationships that get you into the conversation early.
Your role will be to identify those opportunities, develop trusted relationships and position Impact as the design & build partner of choice.
What you'll be doing...
Working closely with the Directors, Design, Preconstruction, Estimating and Delivery teams, you'll take ownership of the front end of the business development process.
Your focus will include:
- Developing and executing a proactive business development strategy.
- Identifying new commercial interiors and workplace opportunities across the Auckland market.
- Building and maintaining a strong pipeline of qualified design & build opportunities.
- Developing relationships with commercial property owners and occupiers, project managers, architects, interior designers, workplace consultants and commercial real estate professionals.
- Identifying opportunities early in the project lifecycle, before they become traditional tenders.
- Understanding client requirements, procurement strategies and project drivers.
- Qualifying opportunities and ensuring the right projects are brought into the business.
- Working with Design and Preconstruction to shape opportunities and develop winning solutions.
- Supporting client presentations, proposals and tender interviews where required.
- Building long-term relationships that generate repeat business and referrals.
- Providing market intelligence to the Directors around upcoming projects, trends and opportunities.
- Representing Impact at industry events, networking functions and client meetings.
What we're looking for...
This role requires someone who can hit the ground running.
Most importantly, you'll have a strong understanding of the New Zealand commercial interiors market and an established network across the property, design and construction sectors.
You may already be working as a Business Development Manager, Client Development Manager or similar.
Alternatively, you could be working in preconstruction, estimating, project management or another client-facing position within commercial interiors and have naturally developed strong relationships and a genuine appetite for business development.
What matters is that you understand the market and know how to create opportunities.
You'll bring:
- Proven experience within New Zealand's commercial interiors or construction sector.
- Strong understanding of design & build and the preconstruction process.
- An established network across commercial property, design and construction.
- Demonstrated ability to develop new business and secure opportunities.
- Strong commercial acumen.
- Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
- Confidence engaging with senior decision-makers.
- A proactive, entrepreneurial and relationship-led approach.
What makes this opportunity different?
This isn't about inheriting a mature sales pipeline and managing existing accounts.
It's about creating something.
Impact is deliberately investing in its front-end capability because it sees an opportunity to further grow its position within the design & build market.
You'll have the autonomy to identify where the opportunities are, build the relationships that matter and work alongside the Directors to shape the company's future growth strategy.
You'll also have the backing of an experienced design, preconstruction and delivery team who can turn those opportunities into exceptional projects.
You create the opportunity. The team helps bring it to life.
What success looks like...
First 3 months
You'll build a strong understanding of Impact's capabilities and point of difference, establish your target market and begin developing relationships with key clients and industry partners.
6 months
You'll have an active pipeline of qualified commercial interiors and design & build opportunities and be recognised within the market as a credible representative of Impact.
12 months
You'll have established a strong network of strategic relationships, secured new and repeat business and made a measurable contribution to the company's growth within the design & build market.
What's on offer?
This is an opportunity to join an established commercial interiors business at an exciting point in its growth journey.
You'll have:
- A newly created position with genuine autonomy.
- Direct exposure to the Directors and senior leadership team.
- The opportunity to influence the future direction of the business.
- A strong design, preconstruction and delivery team behind you.
- A role focused on quality relationships and sustainable growth.
- A competitive remuneration package with an incentive structure aligned to business performance.
If you've built your career within New Zealand's commercial interiors market and you're ready to take a more strategic role in developing a business, we'd love to hear from you.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys opening doors, building relationships and being involved early enough to genuinely influence the outcome.
