Client-Side Project Manager - Construction

Are you a Project Manager who likes getting stuff done rather than reporting and compliance? In this Client-Side role you'd be the owner's person on live projects, close enough to the build to challenge a programme rather than summarise one.

About the company:
A privately owned New Zealand property development and construction group, working across commercial, retail, healthcare and residential. They're the main contractor on their own projects and use subcontractors underneath, so the work sits closer to delivery than a typical client-side seat. The business has grown quickly over the last few years and the team is growing with it with a large lift in forecasted assets under ownership over the coming years.

About the role:
You'd represent the owner's interests on live projects, working alongside the delivery team rather than overseeing from a distance. The work spans large-format retail, a large healthcare project and residential, with seismic strengthening and extension work in a live trading environment. Auckland based, with regular travel to site for kick-offs, inspections and key milestones on projects across the North Island. You'd report directly to the CEO, so decisions get made in one conversation rather than three.

Key responsibilities
 - Represent the owner's interests on live construction projects
 - Hold contractors and consultants to the brief, the programme and the budget
 - Get close to the detail: buildability, cost and sequencing
 - Travel to site for kick-offs, inspections and key milestones
 - Pick up the next project as the pipeline comes on line
 
What you'll need
 - Delivered commercial, retail or healthcare construction projects
 - A hands-on background rather than oversight and reporting
 - Confidence challenging a contractor's programme or cost
 - Seismic or live trading environment experience is a real plus
 - Comfortable with autonomy, travel and a flat structure
