What they need

Climate Data Specialist (AI Training) About The Role What if your expertise in climate modeling, ecology, or environmental science could directly shape how AI reasons about one of the most important challenges facing our planet? We're looking for Climate Data Specialists to develop and evaluate advanced environmental science problems that train the next generation of AI models — making them smarter, more rigorous, and genuinely useful for real-world scientific challenges.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for environmental scientists who want to put their deep expertise to work beyond the lab or classroom.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design and develop advanced, real-world environmental science problems spanning climate modeling, ecology, sustainability, and related domains
  • Solve and critically review complex problem sets to ensure scientific accuracy, depth, and rigor
  • Apply your domain expertise to help AI systems reason more effectively about environmental science concepts
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and fellow domain experts to refine and improve AI model outputs
  • Ensure all deliverables meet high standards of scientific clarity, precision, and relevance

Who You Are

  • Holds a Master's or PhD in Environmental Science, Climate Science, Ecology, or a closely related field
  • Strong expertise in at least one of: climate modeling, ecology, sustainability science, or environmental data analysis
  • Proficient in Python or R for research, data analysis, or scientific computing
  • Exceptional written communication skills — you can translate complex science into clear, structured problem statements
  • Detail-oriented and rigorous, with a commitment to accuracy and scientific integrity
  • Fluent in English and currently based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, quality evaluation, or AI training workflows
  • Background in science communication, academic writing, or curriculum development
  • Familiarity with AI tools or machine learning concepts as an end user or researcher
  • Published research or hands-on fieldwork experience in environmental or climate science

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading AI research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based scientific work
  • Contribute directly to AI that could improve how the world understands and responds to environmental challenges
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
