As part of a collaborative coding and revenue cycle environment, you will have the opportunity to influence coding quality initiatives, support coder development, and contribute to enterprise-wide improvements that impact financial performance, compliance, and patient care outcomes.

This role offers meaningful ownership, visibility across multiple teams, and the chance to serve as a trusted resource on complex coding matters.

What You'll Do

Coding Quality & Compliance

  • Evaluate the quality and accuracy of inpatient coding and reimbursement outcomes.
  • Review documentation and coding decisions to ensure alignment with current regulations, guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and areas of coding risk.

Education & Team Development

  • Provide constructive feedback that helps coding professionals strengthen their skills and performance.
  • Support onboarding, training initiatives, and ongoing educational efforts as needed.
  • Share coding knowledge and regulatory updates with team members and stakeholders.

Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Partner with leadership to enhance coding quality programs and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to workflow refinement, standardization efforts, and policy development.
  • Assist in tracking and reporting quality metrics to support organizational goals.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with documentation, compliance, revenue cycle, and operational teams to address coding-related challenges.
  • Help resolve complex coding scenarios and provide guidance on best practices.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource for coding regulations and industry changes.

What Success Looks Like

  • Improved coding accuracy and consistency across teams.
  • Effective education and mentoring that supports coder growth.
  • Strong compliance outcomes and reduced coding-related risks.
  • Meaningful contributions to quality improvement and operational initiatives.

What You Bring

  • Background in Health Information Management, Coding, Revenue Integrity, or a related healthcare discipline.
  • Experience performing inpatient coding within an acute care healthcare environment.
  • Working knowledge of inpatient reimbursement methodologies and diagnostic grouping processes.
  • Familiarity with ICD-10 coding standards, regulatory requirements, and compliance expectations.
  • Experience reviewing coding quality, identifying discrepancies, and communicating findings effectively.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Relevant coding credential such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CIC, COC, CPC, or a comparable certification.
  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Nice to Have

  • Additional years of inpatient coding experience.
  • Prior coding audit or quality review experience.
  • Experience supporting education, training, mentoring, or onboarding programs.
  • Exposure to academic medical centers or large health systems.
  • Knowledge of clinical documentation improvement initiatives.
  • Experience developing coding policies, quality metrics, or process improvement programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or a related field.
  • Advanced coding credentials or multiple certifications.
