What they need

Clinical Practitioner- Methamphetamine Harm Reduction

Lifewise | Rotorua | Permanent part-time, 0.5 FTE

Salary: $90,000–$92,000 per annum, pro rata

Lifewise is seeking an experienced Clinical Practitioner to join us in a permanent part-time position (0.5 FTE), helping establish a new methamphetamine harm reduction service in Rotorua.

Help shape a new service. Make a lasting difference.

Join Lifewise in establishing a new methamphetamine harm reduction service in Rotorua. This rare opportunity combines specialist clinical practice with service development to improve access to culturally responsive care and strengthen whānau wellbeing.

Working alongside Peer Support Workers, Pou Whānau Connectors and consortium partners, you will help shape an integrated, community-based approach to reducing harm and supporting recovery.

About the role

You will provide specialist alcohol and other drug (AOD) support for tāngata whaiora and whānau while contributing to clinical pathways, workforce capability and service improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering clinical assessments, brief interventions, treatment and recovery planning, and aftercare coordination.
  • Providing trauma-informed, strengths-based and culturally safe care, with coordinated referrals and warm handovers.
  • Offering clinical consultation and practice guidance to peer and whānau support colleagues, respecting role boundaries and lived-experience expertise.
  • Supporting clinical risk assessment, safety planning and appropriate escalation.
  • Building partnerships across addiction, mental health, primary care, iwi, Māori health and community services.
  • Maintaining accurate clinical records and contributing to reporting, outcome monitoring and quality improvement.

About you

You bring sound clinical judgement, strong relationship-building skills and a commitment to accessible, whānau-centred care.

You will have:

  • Current DAPAANZ registration and a relevant addiction, counselling, social work, nursing, psychology, psychotherapy or allied health qualification, with other professional registration or membership where applicable.
  • Demonstrated mental health and addiction experience, including AOD practice and methamphetamine-related harm.
  • Experience working with tāngata whaiora, whānau, Māori providers, peer-led services and multidisciplinary teams.
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, cultural safety and equitable outcomes for Māori.
  • An understanding of Ngā Paerewa, clinical governance and professional documentation and quality standards.

Experience in clinical consultation, integrated community treatment, service development or quality improvement would be an advantage.

Why Lifewise?

Influence a new service from its inception within Lifewise’s clinical governance framework and a collaborative network of community partners. Guided by compassion, courage, respect and integrity, you will contribute to meaningful change for individuals, whānau and the wider Rotorua / Lakes community.
