Help shape the future of mobility and rehabilitation in Aotearoa
Have you ever wanted a career that combines healthcare, science, technology, problem-solving and hands-on design?
At Peke Waihanga, we're looking for motivated individuals to join our Clinical Prosthetist/Orthotist Training Pathway. This is a unique opportunity to train towards becoming a qualified Prosthetist/Orthotist while gaining practical experience in a supportive clinical environment.
As a trainee, you'll be part of a national organisation dedicated to helping people achieve greater independence, mobility and participation in everyday life through prosthetic and orthotic care.
Our Clinical Prosthetist/Orthotist Training Pathway has been designed to grow New Zealand's future prosthetic and orthotic workforce.
The pathway combines practical workplace experience with supported study, giving you the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and professional capability needed for a rewarding clinical career.
How it works:
Start as a Technician
- Join our Auckland or Wellington team as a Prosthetic/Orthotic Technician.
- Learn how to fabricate, maintain and repair orthotic and prosthetic devices.
- Gain a broad understanding of prosthetic and orthotic care and the role of a Clinical Prosthetist/Orthotist.
Explore your future career
- Build your knowledge and experience while working alongside experienced clinicians.
- Decide whether you would like to pursue a career as a Clinical Prosthetist/Orthotist.
Supported university study
If you choose to continue along the pathway, Peke Waihanga will provide financial support for you to complete a Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Brisbane (this qualification is not currently available in New Zealand).
Become a Clinical Prosthetist/Orthotist
- Following graduation, you'll join Peke Waihanga as a Clinical Prosthetist/Orthotist.
- Work directly with patients to assess, prescribe and maintain prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Help people achieve greater independence, mobility and participation in everyday life.
