Position Summary
Simple & Serene Detox & Recovery is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and highly motivated Clinical Director to provide leadership and oversight of clinical services within our detoxification and recovery program.
The Clinical Director is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, ethical, client-centered, and evidence-based behavioral health services. This position provides clinical leadership to the treatment team, oversees clinical documentation and treatment planning, supports regulatory compliance, and ensures continuity of care from admission through discharge.
As a startup and growing organization, the Clinical Director will be a hands-on clinical leader. In addition to administrative and supervisory responsibilities, the Clinical Director may conduct assessments, provide individual and group counseling, participate in treatment planning, and assist with direct clinical services as needed.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader who understands substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, detoxification, trauma-informed care, and the importance of building a positive treatment culture.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership & Program Oversight
- Provide leadership and oversight of the facility's clinical services and treatment programming.
- Establish and maintain a therapeutic, client-centered, and recovery-oriented clinical environment.
- Ensure clinical services are delivered according to organizational policies, applicable Arizona requirements, payer requirements, and accepted standards of care.
- Collaborate with the Administrator, Medical Director, nursing leadership, and other department leaders regarding program operations and client care.
- Participate in development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, workflows, and programming.
- Assist leadership with development and continuous improvement of the organization's clinical model.

- Conduct regular individual and team supervision.
- Provide consultation regarding complex cases, behavioral concerns, discharge barriers, and clinical decision-making.
- Support professional development and ongoing competency of clinical staff.
- Assist with onboarding, orientation, training, and evaluation of clinical employees.
- Promote professional boundaries, ethical practice, accountability, and teamwork.
Assessment & Treatment Planning
- Ensure timely completion of comprehensive behavioral health and substance use assessments.
- Review and oversee individualized treatment plans.
- Ensure treatment plans address client strengths, needs, risks, barriers, goals, and discharge needs.
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
- Monitor client progress and ensure treatment plans are reviewed and updated appropriately.

- Participate in crisis intervention and stabilization.
- Develop treatment and discharge recommendations.

Documentation & Quality Assurance
- Monitor clinical documentation for accuracy, timeliness, medical necessity, and quality.
- Review assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other clinical records.
- Conduct routine chart audits and provide corrective coaching when deficiencies are identified.
- Ensure documentation supports the services provided and demonstrates progress toward treatment goals.
- Work with leadership to establish documentation standards and clinical workflows within the electronic medical record.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
Detoxification & Client Safety
- Maintain a working understanding of substance withdrawal, withdrawal-management services, and common behavioral and psychiatric complications associated with detoxification.
- Collaborate closely with nursing and medical personnel regarding clients experiencing changes in behavioral or psychiatric status.
- Ensure appropriate clinical response to suicidal ideation, self-harm risk, behavioral escalation, psychiatric symptoms, and other safety concerns.
- Ensure staff understand appropriate escalation procedures and their individual scopes of responsibility.
- Promote trauma-informed, respectful, and non-punitive approaches to client care.
Discharge & Continuity of Care
- Ensure discharge planning begins early in the treatment process.
- Promote successful transitions into appropriate continuing levels of care.
- Develop relationships with residential treatment programs, outpatient providers, sober living programs, community resources, and other referral partners.
- Ensure clients receive appropriate referrals and follow-up recommendations upon discharge.
- Work to reduce unsuccessful discharges and improve engagement in continuing treatment.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Maintain familiarity with applicable Arizona behavioral health regulations, organizational policies, confidentiality requirements, and professional ethical standards.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and applicable federal substance use disorder confidentiality requirements.
- Participate in regulatory surveys, audits, accreditation activities, corrective action plans, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Immediately report significant clinical, ethical, or safety concerns to executive leadership.
- Assist in investigation and resolution of client grievances, incidents, and clinical complaints when appropriate.
