ABOUT ORION MENTAL HEALTH
Orion Mental Health LLC is a DHS-certified Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS) provider based in Edina, Minnesota. Our practitioners meet adults with serious mental illness where they live and teach the skills that keep them stable: managing symptoms, building routines, keeping housing, getting to appointments, and reconnecting with the community. We want every visit to be a real intervention, every note to prove the work happened, and every claim to hold up under review.
We are a small, growing practice, and we are deliberate about how we grow. We treat the statute and the DHS manual as the floor, not the ceiling. Our practitioners are trained before they see a client, supervised by clinicians who know ARMHS well, and held to a clear documentation standard. Our clients get a provider that is organized, accountable, and serious about their progress. Our staff get clear expectations, real supervision, and a team that cares about doing the work right. If you want to help shape what a well-run ARMHS program looks like, this is a good place to do it.
THE ROLE
We are adding a second Clinical Supervisor to our ARMHS program. This is a part-time, flexible, remote position for a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who knows ARMHS well, enjoys teaching it, and already holds Minnesota Board of Social Work approval to provide clinical supervision. Board approval as a clinical supervisor is required, not preferred, because part of this job is supervising our pre-licensed staff toward their own licenses. You will work alongside our current Clinical Supervisor and report to the Program Director.
The role has four parts:
- Treatment supervision. You will be the treatment supervisor of record for a group of mental health practitioners and other pre-licensed staff assigned to you, under Minnesota Statutes section 245I.06 and section 256B.0623. You will write each person's treatment supervision plan, meet with them as often as their supervision needs and the licensing board and DHS requirements call for, and review and sign progress notes for the staff you directly supervise. Licensure supervision is part of this role: we hire staff who need supervised hours toward their own license, and you will provide that supervision where the licensing boards allow an LICSW to do so, documented on the boards' forms.
- Assessments and treatment planning. You will train and supervise our LGSW staff in completing standard diagnostic assessments, functional assessments, level of care assessments, and individual treatment plans, so that assessments are done correctly and on time across the team. You will also complete assessments and plans yourself as assigned, by video or in person, within the timelines the statutes and our payers require.
- Chart compliance. Our Practice Administrator flags every diagnostic assessment, functional assessment, and treatment plan that is coming due. You own what happens next: assign the renewal to a qualified staff member, or complete it yourself when no one else is available, and confirm it is done before the current document expires. You will also review charts for quality and send the Program Director a short monthly compliance report. No client should ever be served on an expired plan, and you are the person who makes sure of it.
- Staff training. You are our ARMHS trainer. You will orient every new practitioner to what ARMHS is (and is not), and train the team on skill building, how mental health symptoms show up in daily functioning, how to teach and adapt coping skills and techniques, and how to write a progress note that matches the visit and establishes medical necessity. Training is by video, with in-person sessions only when a staff member needs hands-on help.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Write and annually review a treatment supervision plan for each staff person assigned to you.
- Provide individual and group treatment supervision as often as each person's plan and the licensing board and DHS requirements call for: review interventions, teach alternative strategies, review assessments and plans, address cultural considerations, give competency feedback, and coach skills.
- Provide licensure supervision to staff working toward their license, where the boards allow an LICSW to do so, and verify their hours on the boards' forms.
- Review, return, and approve progress notes for the staff you directly supervise, including a new practitioner's first three to five notes within 72 hours.
- Train and supervise LGSW staff in completing diagnostic assessments, functional assessments, level of care assessments, and individual treatment plans.
- Act on the expiring-document flags from the Practice Administrator: assign each renewal to a qualified staff member or complete it yourself when no one else is available, and confirm completion before the expiration date.
- Review charts for quality and report findings, expirations handled, and corrective actions to the Program Director each month.
- Deliver new practitioner ARMHS orientation and a monthly training topic for the team; keep training materials and attendance current; deliver the DHS required training topics within the first 90 days and annually.
- Take same-day reports of safety events and changes in a client's condition from your supervisees, direct the response, and confirm mandated reports were made.
- Respond to your supervisees' note returns, case questions, and scheduling within one business day.
- Take part in the once a month team supervision meeting required by DHS and the once a month Administrative Meeting.
WHAT WE REQUIRE
- Current, unrestricted LICSW license from the Minnesota Board of Social Work, in good standing.
- Already enrolled as an individual provider with Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP) and credentialed with the Minnesota Medicaid managed care plans (for example UCare, Blue Plus, HealthPartners, and Medica), with an active NPI and a current CAQH profile.
- Experience completing diagnostic assessments, functional assessments, and individual treatment plans for adults with serious mental illness.
- Working knowledge of ARMHS under Minnesota Statutes section 256B.0623 and the chapter 245I documentation and supervision standards. ARMHS proficiency is a major factor in pay.
- Minnesota Board of Social Work approval to provide clinical supervision, already in place. You must be able to serve as the supervisor of record on our staff members' Board supervision plans from day one. We are not able to help a candidate obtain this; applicants without it will not be considered.
- Experience supervising LGSW or other pre-licensed staff in a community based or rehabilitative mental health setting.
- The ability to teach: clear explanations, practical examples, and patience with staff at different experience levels.
- Comfortable with an electronic health record, Google Workspace, e-signature tools, and video meetings, from a private remote workspace that protects client confidentiality.
- Available for up to 10 hours per week, with flexibility to schedule supervision, assessments, and training around staff and client availability, including some early evening hours.
- Passes a Minnesota BCA criminal background check before any client record access.
NICE TO HAVE
- Board-approved supervisor status with the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy (for supervising LPC and LPCC candidates).
- Prior experience as a treatment supervisor or treatment director for an ARMHS provider.
- Experience developing training curricula or leading staff training.
- LADC or experience with co-occurring disorders.
SCHEDULE AND PAY
- 5 to 10 hours per week. Hours vary with client, staff, and assessment volume, so you must be able to work up to 10 hours in a given week.
- Fully remote. In-person time only when a staff member needs direct hands-on training (Twin Cities metro).
- $45 to $60 per hour, based on your experience and your ARMHS proficiency.
- Your choice of engagement: part-time W-2 employee (semi-monthly pay with withholding, covered under Orion's professional liability policy) or 1099 independent contractor (semi-monthly ACH, you set your own days and times within the program's deadlines, and you carry your own professional liability coverage). We will walk you through both options before you decide.
- Note for contractors with other affiliations: under DHS rules effective July 1, 2026, an ARMHS treatment supervisor may be affiliated with no more than 10 organizations and may supervise no more than 20 staff in total, with an annual attestation.
