What they need

Clinical Team Leader (RPN) - Bed Access Coordinator - Inpatient Unit

Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS)

Full Time | Ongoing | Footscray

The PYMHWS inpatient unit (IPU) is a purpose-built facility in the New Footscray Hospital. The service follows the principle of least restrictive treatment and minimisation of adverse impacts on the young person arising out of hospitalisation.

The IPU provides specialised inpatient intervention to young people aged 18 to 25 during the acute phase of mental health disorders.

About Us:

Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria's newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.

PYMHWS is leading a bold and values-driven transformation in youth mental health care across Melbourne's north and west. We exist to walk alongside young people, their families, carers, supporters and kin delivering care that is accessible, inclusive, developmentally appropriate, evidence-informed, and grounded in lived experience. Our service model is shaped by the voices of young people and their communities, and underpinned by a commitment to safety, equity, and continuous learning.

The Opportunity:

The Clinical Team Leader (Registered Psychiatric Nurse) is a senior member of the Inpatient Unit (IPU) leadership team, working closely with the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) to provide clinical, operational and professional leadership, and acting in the NUM role during periods of leave. The position supports the delivery of safe, high-quality, recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care, while promoting clinical excellence, workforce development and continuous quality improvement.

The role is responsible for coordinating patient flow, managing inpatient bed access and capacity, and facilitating timely admissions, transfers and discharges.

Bring your energy, empathy and expertise — and help shape what youth mental health care can be.

About You:

  • Registered with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
  • Postgraduate Diploma or Master's in Mental Health Nursing
  • Leadership experience in mental health care
  • Demonstrated expert-level mental health nursing knowledge and experience in working with young people experiencing complex mental health presentations, including co-occurring AOD issues, neurodevelopmental disorders and disability.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act (2022) and youth mental health policies
  • Demonstrated experience managing patient flow, inpatient bed access, complex admissions and service coordination within acute mental health services.
  • Commitment to professional development and excellence in nursing practice
  • Understanding of ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities as a registered nurse
  • Respect for the unique needs and experiences of young people and their families
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Why Join PYMHWS?

  • Be part of building a legacy for youth mental health in Victoria
  • Work alongside passionate, visionary leaders in a values-led organisation
  • Salary packaging options, up to $11,600 tax free earnings
  • 5 weeks annual leave plus monthly ADO for full time employees
  • Flexible working arrangements including remote work options where possible
  • Employee wellbeing focused, access to EAP
  • Fitness Passport membership
  • Flexible, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development
