Lead an exceptional clinical team delivering Phase I trials
Momentum Clinical Research is seeking an experienced Clinical Team Lead to provide day-to-day leadership to the clinical professionals undertaking trial activity within our Phase I unit in Takapuna.
Reporting to Clinical Operations Management, you will support the team to deliver safe, efficient and protocol-compliant clinical trial activity. You will provide visible leadership on the floor, coordinate people and workloads, support rostering and ensure the team is prepared for each study’s requirements.
You will work closely with Clinical Operations Management to turn operational plans into consistent, high-quality clinical delivery.
We are looking for a registered nurse or paramedic with clinical trials experience. Direct experience in early-phase trials is highly desirable.
The role
As Clinical Team Lead, you will be the key point of leadership for the clinical team during day-to-day trial activity.
You will ensure team members understand their responsibilities, are appropriately allocated and have the support they need to perform at their best. You will help maintain clear communication, high professional standards and a positive culture of accountability and teamwork.
You may currently be working as a clinical trials team leader, senior research nurse, senior paramedic, Clinical Nurse Manager or experienced clinical leader within ICU, emergency or another acute-care environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership and support to the Phase I clinical team
- Coordinate clinical staff and workloads during trial activity
- Support roster preparation, staffing allocations and shift coverage
- Identify staffing gaps or operational risks and escalate them to Clinical Operations Management
- Conduct team briefings and ensure responsibilities are clearly understood
- Support the delivery of participant admissions, dosing days and post-dose monitoring
- Ensure clinical activities are completed according to study protocols, Good Clinical Practice and site procedures
- Monitor standards of clinical care, documentation and protocol compliance
- Support the team to recognise, escalate and respond appropriately to adverse events and clinical emergencies
- Coordinate time-critical trial activities, including observations, ECGs, sample collection and pharmacokinetic timepoints
- Coach team members and support onboarding, training and competency development
- Provide constructive feedback and help address day-to-day performance concerns
- Promote effective communication between clinical staff, investigators, study coordinators and operational leaders
- Contribute to process improvements and the consistent delivery of trial activity
- Foster a respectful, collaborative and accountable team culture
What you will bring
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Paramedic
- Experience working in clinical trials
- Phase I or early-phase clinical trials experience is highly desirable
- Demonstrated experience leading, supervising or coordinating clinical professionals
- Strong clinical judgement and the confidence to provide direction during busy or complex trial activity
- An understanding of Good Clinical Practice and clinical research requirements
- Experience with clinical risk, adverse-event escalation and emergency response
- Strong rostering, scheduling and staff-allocation skills
- Excellent communication, coaching and conflict-resolution capability
- A calm, visible and consistent leadership style
- The ability to earn professional respect and hold team members appropriately accountable
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to coordinate multiple time-critical activities
Experience in ICU, emergency care, acute medicine or paramedicine would be particularly valuable.
What success will look like
You will be a trusted and respected leader who brings clarity and consistency to the clinical team.
Staff will understand their responsibilities, trial activities will be appropriately resourced and coordinated, and issues will be identified and escalated early. You will help create a team that communicates effectively, supports one another and delivers safe, high-quality Phase I trial activity.
