Cloud Database Migration Engineer (AWS)

Role Overview

Migrate on-premises relational databases to AWS using database expertise, cloud architecture, and AI-assisted tools to deliver secure, reliable migrations with minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess on-premises workloads and plan homogeneous and heterogeneous database migrations.
• Convert schemas, stored procedures, and SQL across database engines.
• Design secure AWS target architectures using RDS, Aurora, and EC2.
• Execute migration cutover and rollback plans.
• Automate deployments using Infrastructure as Code and optimize post-migration performance.

Required Skills (Core)

• Databases: Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Db2; strong SQL and performance tuning.
• AWS Migration: AWS DMS, SCT, RDS, Aurora, EC2, S3.
• Cloud Foundations: VPC, IAM, networking, AWS Well-Architected Framework.
• Security: KMS, SSL/TLS encryption, least-privilege IAM, and compliance requirements (GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS).
• Automation: Terraform/CloudFormation, Python/Bash/PowerShell, and CloudWatch monitoring.

Required Skills (AI)

• Experience using Generative AI and LLMs to translate proprietary SQL dialects, such as Oracle PL/SQL to PostgreSQL PL/pgSQL.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools for generating, explaining, and debugging migration scripts and infrastructure code.
• Familiarity with ML-based assessment and discovery tools for workload analysis and target sizing.
• Understanding of AI-driven performance monitoring for anomaly detection and post-migration optimization.
• Prompt engineering skills for accurate, context-aware AI assistance.
• Strong validation skills to identify AI-generated errors, hallucinations, and logic defects.
• Awareness of downstream AI/ML pipelines, data lakes, and vector databases.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Clear communication and stakeholder collaboration.
• Project management awareness.

Nice to Have

• AWS Certified Database – Specialty or AWS Solutions Architect certification.
• Experience with enterprise-scale database migrations.
