Cloud Operations Engineer

1. Cloud & Infrastructure Management

• Manage and maintain cloud infrastructure, services, and resources across platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or DigitalOcean.

• Configure and maintain compute instances, managed databases, object storage, load balancers, and VPCs.

• Manage DNS, firewalls, and networking, including VPC peering and private networking between app and database tiers.

• Deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot applications running in cloud environments.

2. Deployment & Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment

• Set up and maintain deployment pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar) for pushing code to servers or platform environments.

• Automate infrastructure provisioning and deployment processes.

• Support containerization (Docker) and orchestration as ProSol scales toward Kubernetes or similar solutions.

• Manage and maintain separate staging and production environments for both Lampara and HEIMS.

• Collaborate with developers and technical teams to support application deployment.

3. Monitoring & Reliability

• Set up uptime monitoring and alerting (e.g., built-in cloud monitoring or third-party tools like UptimeRobot/Grafana).

• Monitor system performance, availability, and cloud resource utilization.

• Define and track SLA/uptime metrics, particularly relevant given HEIMS's contractual uptime obligations to BulSU.

• Act as first responder for outages and incidents, with a clear escalation path to development teams.

4. Backup & Disaster Recovery

• Implement cloud security, access controls, automated backup schedules, and disaster recovery measures for databases and file storage.

• Own and test execution of the Disaster Recovery Plan.

• Document and periodically test restore procedures, not just backup creation.

5. Security & Compliance

• Ensure cloud environments comply with company security and operational standards.

• Perform server hardening (SSH key management, firewall rules, fail2ban, patching cadence).

• Manage SSL/TLS certificates.

• Maintain access control and audit trails for who has server or console access.

6. Database Administration (Cloud-Adjacent)

• Manage cloud-hosted databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/MySQL), including backups, scaling, and connection pooling.

• Coordinate with backend developers on query performance and schema migrations in production.

7. Technical Support & IT Asset Management

• Troubleshoot infrastructure, networking, and cloud-related technical issues.

• Provide technical assistance for IT-related concerns, including hardware, software, and network issues.

• Assist users with system access, software installation, and troubleshooting.

• Maintain an updated inventory of IT equipment, hardware, software, and licenses.

• Assist in the setup, configuration, and maintenance of company IT equipment, and recommend IT equipment and resources when necessary.

8. Cost Optimization

• Monitor cloud billing, right-size resources, and identify idle or unused resources.

• Report monthly cloud spend versus budget to management.

9. Documentation & Handover

• Maintain infrastructure diagrams, runbooks, and access credential documentation.

• Document procedures, configurations, and maintain up-to-date technical records.

• Ensure cloud hosting cessation and turnover documentation are prepared proactively, not compiled after the fact.
